"JOHANNESBURG Shops were looted overnight, a section of highway was closed and stick-wielding protesters marched through Johannesburg on Sunday, as sporadic violence following the jailing of former South African President Jacob Zuma spread.

The unrest had mainly been concentrated in Zuma's home province of KwaZulu-Natal, where he started serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court on Wednesday night."

Large sections of South Africa are in pitched battles right now between Zuma supporters and a mix of police and armed locals. There are some crazy videos of mass looting of malls and warehouses that put LA to shame.

An internal power struggle in the ANC. Zuma was absolutely corrupt, and refused to acknowledge the SA Court's power over him. He practically dared the judge to jail him for contempt, and he did.

Add in some opportunistic rioting and looting and here we are.

BTW thanks for the target for the guys that are using a street sign as a "shield'. Makes you wonder how smart these rioters are if they are bringing rocks to a gun fight.

On the same note, why are the shooters not in a truck or car? If you are getting in a fight with 100s of rioters, shouldn't you be a little more mobile than matching them on foot?
