Even if they drop it to 55, it will not get this bill passed. McConnell has all 50 Republican onboard to oppose it.
Some form of softened junk garbage language will be inserted (maybe voter ID, maybe some other boiler plate feel good junk), but whatever it is will be just enough to gather 3 of the squishes plus Sinema/Manchin and there it goes.

Not trying to get personal on this, I realize there's some hostility in this discussion but I am skeptical any combination of Sinema/Manchin/Collins/Murk/Hawley/Burr/Romney/Toomey etc. won't justgo along with the thrust of the present legislation for the glamor/glory of press write ups about their great moderate ness and brilliant willingness to compromise and be bipartisan.

The underlying goal remains to get fraudulent votes through in federal elections, and enable votes to be harvested after republicans vote, once a target number is realized.

If the threshold was 55, you'd need 5 Republicans if all the Democrats vote for it, not 3. If the Senate was 52-48, this would be a moot discussion, but it is 50-50. Harris doesn't count unless it is a tie vote.

They don't even have to vote for it then. The rule change only takes 51 votes, then have 5 republicans vote to invoke cloture/override the filibuster, and then all 5 (or more probably 3 or 4) would vote against it, but still claim they wanted an up or down vote on 'something as important as voter rights,' and voila, it passes. It's the old John Kerry trick; "I voted for it before I voted against it." (BTW, he served in Vietnam, and supposedly Cambodia too).

Such kabuki theater and a waste of time.

Quote:

Here's how this typically works. If you are against a bill, you do not vote to open debate on the bill you are against. To do so makes no sense whatsoever. Manchin, being a weak-kneed coward of a senator, has now changed his mind based on an empty promise that his doomed-to-fail compromise amendment will get a vote. This lends legitimacy to the Democrat push for passage while opening the door for even more pressure to be piled on Manchin for the final vote. Further, it's in direct contradiction to Manchin's pledge to oppose the bill outright. You don't say that if you are going to turn around and try to "save" the bill with changes.

Oh they got it 50-50 tie and VP is +1.
Have you been paying attention? There are two Democrats not voting to end the filibuster.

Manchin is one (as of right now, he has not said he will vote to kill it), the other is Sinema who has said she is not going to do it and to even try shows how hypocritical the Democrats are.
Manchin knows that anything leftist costs him his seat. He's trying to walk the line. If he goes leftist, you know he got PAID.

Manchin has voted 100% to his democratic buddies. He's a flip flopping bull****ter. Hopefully this is his last term.

Can the VP vote to break a tie on a strictly Senate rule? It's not a law...

That's what I thought. They have to get at least 1 Republican to vote to change the filibuster...

Odd (/sarcasm) they didn't write the headline "Republicans reject falsely named bill for federalization of elections enabling permanent voter fraud Democrats refuse to negotiate with them on."

The CCP party line will be what it is, of course.

That's not set in stone. Under the Constitution the VP serves as president of the Senate. Harris could unilaterally push through a rule change like Rockefeller did in 1975.

Danger, Will Robinson. These are Democrats we are talking about. They steal, lie and CHEAT.
