My company is going super woke. I'm missing a "Racism in Technology" workshop today (thankfully voluntary, but I'm sure I'll pay for not attending). Plus I get Friday off!

I also must work from home - at least for the time being - because I'm not vaccinated.

Great holiday but it's related to one ethnic group and should not be a federal holiday. It doesn't relate to all Americans.

The left is filling the vacuum of Christian holidays and ethics/morality in schools with their own suite of morality/ethics/holidays.

The only thing I got out of Cesar Chavez day was a locked door at a govt building when I went to get some paperwork.

It should be a Take-a-penny / leave-a-penny system where they eliminate a worthless federal holiday in order to add a more worthwhile one.

Why not do Emancipation Proclamation Day for the whole country??

Because Juneteenth is a party day at the state parks..

New holiday day off for Feds. Not so much the rest of the country. In Texas I don't believe any companies are required to give paid time off for any holiday, unless state law has changed.
The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, npublic debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt.
People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.

Before Cafe Mom shut down its boards, I questioned why people who are in states that didn't exist at the time the news hit Texas were celebrating Juneteenth, since they didn't celebrate San Jacinto Day.

WHITE PRIVILEGE is what they screamed

It seems like Juneteenth is being co-opted by the feds to have a holiday that recognizes the last day slaves learned they were freed. Texas was the last place the emancipation proclamation was 'read' and therefore last place it was enforced. The problem with this is that slavery was still legal and practiced in the 4 border states (MD, KY, DE and MO) that stayed in the union until the 13th ammendment was ratified and became law in December, 1865. The emancipation proclamation was only about the 11 states of the Confederacy.
