This is not without precedent. Wilson and FDR were completely incapacitated for portions of their presidencies and everybody else kept on like everything was fine and memory-holed the whole thing. Hard to believe they pulled off the same while campaigning for an initial term in office, but here we are.

It's remarkable that people continue to ignore it. The POTUS repeatedly saying he's going to get in trouble for answering questions, and then garbling them when he does.
