Or, you know, get involved. Why not change the culture instead of shying and cowering away to homesschool? Why not teach your kids to be light in the chaos? Teach them fundamentals and truth and fact. Teach them to rely on reason.

It is good to hear other opinions. As long as you are rooted in facts and know truth - but yes, if you cannot hand that as a parent - send your kid to private school.

Ok so why is the author of the bill that put millions of black men behind bars isn't held to account (or his press secretary who will circle back to that hard question). Or a VP that bragged on keeping minorities in jail to perform work for the state at near slave wages.

I think that is a bit much for 8th graders, but I do think there is a place in highschool to read "controversial" writings to help students evaluate and defend or attack the ideas presented (not that I think that is happening here).

I'm all for this. However, there is almost always a price to be paid for standing up and not only do most people not want to pay that price themselves, they don't want their kids to have to pay it for sure. Not that that is entirely wrong in and of itself, but it stops people from doing what you're suggesting here.

A few years ago, a local school district did something (I won't draw this out, so not specifics) that a bunch of parents and students didn't like. I went to church with some of the parents/kids and was asked what I thought about it. One thing they wanted to do was to sign a petition, but I told them that they were wasting their time. I said the only way they could get through to the district was to have a mass exodus in that activity by those students. I said it would be hard and there was a strong possibility the school district wouldn't back down anyway -- thus the kids (some seniors) would be out that activity they had planned on. Plus, it might have some negative affects later, as in "why did you not complete said activity in high school" on a college application or interview.

They ended up not doing anything. The cost was too great. If you want to change things, change that, although understand that in life there is a price for doing what's right if a substantial number of people want to do what's wrong.

Seems like the school board chic is a damn liar.
