Yeah, we were excited he has chosen this route. Other than WWII we are not a military family. It was going to be special in a different way.LOYAL AG said:Just wander up uninvited and tell them you got lost in the woods. They'll get the joke. Then they'll arrest you.barnyard1996 said:

Seriously though that sucks. I remember my parents approaching formation at my basic graduation. My dad was still an officer when I enlisted and the pride in his eyes was a good moment in what was, at that time, a pretty rocky father-son relationship. First hint of melting the ice. Sucks the Pentagon isn't teaching our soldiers to be stronger than this.
It's interesting to see how perception of military service is changing both from "military" families and "non-military" families. I served one term primarily looking for maturity and some college money. One of two ain't bad! My dad is a retired Navy officer. My mom's dad fought in WWII and Korea and his dad in WWI. Neither of my kids have any interest in serving and I hope they don't have to. Both of mine are more mature and more focused on how to get where they want to go than I was at their ages so while I needed it they really don't. My son is about to move to Austin and is formulating a plan to be self employed when he gets there and my daughter is finishing her freshman year at tu with straight A's. Me? I got kicked out of A&M after 3 semesters as a 22 year old veteran! One of two as noted above...barnyard1996 said:Yeah, we were excited he has chosen this route. Thank you for your service.

100% feel the same way. And even though I'm not a Texan, that goes for Texas too.Quote:
I love this country and would go back in today at 50 if that's what was necessary to protect her.
Yeah, that burns me up when I see kids who have no respect for the people who are serving in the military, or as police, fire, EMS, etc.Quote:
My kids were taken aback when I defended a kid they poked fun at from their school that enlisted. I was never a huge fan of this kid but when they were saying he wasn't real bright and didn't have any other options I reminded them that their right to run their mouths was currently being protected by him and that they should show some respect.
same route my son took, only went 12B at Lost in the Woods the summer before his high school senior year. Then FTAB, poor grades, change of MOS, AIT at Sill. Currently in Egypt until August. Then back to A&M. No military family background. I truly believe some kids just have a calling. Sucks about the ceremony...it was great when we got to go.barnyard1996 said:
Thanks, he is in FTAB, joined the National Guard a couple months back and plans to go full Army when he graduates Dec '22
Final review is happening at Kyle Field this Friday. Maybe the Army could take a few notes?
