My experience is that school boards hold these public forums as a matter of procedure, but have their mind made up prior to the meetings.

They have no intention of actually considering the information/viewpoints of the speakers. It makes the public feel better to emotionally rant about something, but does absolutely nothing in reality.

We live in a Houston suburb and elementary kids have masks as optional. I've noticed in the last couple of weeks as I drop and pick up my daughter, the older kids who open the doors of vehicles as you arrive to drop off/pick up are no longer wearing masks (was required for that job), and neither are the teachers who are outside during this.

I don't pretend to know your financial circumstances, but as the parent of homeschool children, I've discovered that it's about priorities more than affordability. Again, I know that one size doesn't fit all, but my wife and decided many years ago that some shiny things weren't worth the cost on several levels.
