Y'all are still working from home? Shoot, I think I worked from home a cumulative 2 weeks in the past year.
These comments are interesting to me. Everyone I know has been WFH since the beginning of all of this.

Yet, everyone on here seems to have been back in the office since the beginning of it all.

Completely contradictory.

To me it seems large corporate office jobs are still mostly WFH while smaller private companies and manufacturing hybrids have been in the office.
Construction never stopped. Our office closed for a brief time to be cleaned, but that's about it.

I work for Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Returning to office has been voluntary since 6/8/20, and I have gone in 2 days and worked from home 3 days a week.

I live in a heavy suburban area (no mfg. nearby), and if you go out at lunch it looks like nothing ever changed, looks like Feb '20. I doubt that many people going out to grab a bite, I think all the WFH people are out running errands, going to get exercise at some parks, etc.

Didn't see any sales people post yet. I work for a large NASDAQ company, and we haven't seen a customer since last March. Nothing has been said about going out any time soon either. Business hasn't suffered much , so there's no rush. But we're all outside sales people and we're biting at the bit to get out, do what we signed up for. Only downside would be mtg with clients with a mask on, which gives us pause. We don't want to do that either.

I work in operations / plant management - been at the mill every day. I would be embarrassed if I worked for a company and wasn't considered essential

All joking aside, I expect there be will be a big divesture of office space soon and wouldn't be surprised to see lower overall salaries for folks working from home since they don't have costs/ time of commuting - may not affect current positions but will probably be figured into future hires.

Well, Amazon plans to run counter of many high-tech companies.....

Amazon intends to return to office life after the coronavirus pandemic is brought to heel, a decision that bucks a new trend toward more flexible work arrangements that is particularly prevalent among its peers in the technology sector.

The global retail and technology giant said it intends to shift away from a work-from-home model over the next few months and start sending large portions of its white-collar workforce back to the office for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Over the past 12 months, only 10% of Amazon's thousands of workers have reported to the office on a regular basis, the company said in a Tuesday statement. However, Amazon said that in-person interactions between co-workers are a critical part of its success, and thus it officially committed to reopening its buildings.

"Our plan is to return to an office-centric culture as our baseline," Amazon executives wrote , "We believe it enables us to invent, collaborate, and learn together most effectively."

Apparently, they released a study this week that determined that remote work was taking a heavy toll on company cohesiveness and morale.

Just got word...we are mostly back in office within the month.

The only exceptions will be those with a severe comorbidity or living with one. They are allowing time for everyone in those situations to get both shots and allow the full wait time. With the availability of the vaccine, I would assume by end of May we are 100% back in office. I dont think they will allow people to say "i can't get one" because we all know in DFW you can find one if you want one..

Do you by chance have a link for this? Trying to show to a co-worker.

Been a frustrating year from my standpoint because of how little of my job I can do from home. I'm in DoD satellite operations and engineering so most of my work is accomplished on base. For the last year we've been fluctuating between 25-50% manning on base which pretty much means at best I go out three times a week unless there is an anomaly or emergency. I can do some meetings from home as well as a few minor projects. Other than that, when I'm working from home (like today) I'm logged in looking busy and dicking around on the internet, usually TexAgs!

Try this... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/worklab/work-trend-index/hybrid-work

It was actually a Microsoft study. Lots of good information here.

A few interesting takeaways....
  • Employees want the best of both worlds: over 70 percent of workers want flexible remote work options to continue, while over 65 percent are craving more in-person time with their teams. To prepare, 66 percent of business decision makers are considering redesigning physical spaces to better accommodate hybrid work environments..
  • Leaders are out of touch with employees and need a wake-up call. Those impromptu encounters at the office help keep leaders honest. With remote work, there are fewer chances to ask employees, "Hey, how are you?" and then pick up on important cues as they respond.
  • High productivity is masking an exhausted workforce.
Self-assessed productivity has remained the same or higher for many employees over the past year, but at a human cost. One in five global survey respondents say their employer doesn't care about their work-life balance. Fifty-four percent feel overworked. Thirty-nine percent feel exhausted. This barrage of communications is unstructured and mostly unplanned, with 62 percent of calls and meetings unscheduled or conducted ad hoc. And workers are feeling the pressure to keep up.
  • Gen Z is at risk and will need to be re-energized
An overlooked demographic appears to be suffering right now: Gen Z. Sixty percent of this generation those between the ages of 18 and 25 say they are merely surviving or flat-out struggling right now. They're most likely single and feel isolated, struggle with motivation at work, or lack the financial means to create proper workplaces at home.

That was fun while it lasted! Wife going back now with many people who have moved out of state and away.

All the people that actually moved away will now have to backtrack or just quit and find something local where they are now or possibly someone else offering remote.

People already moving away without confirmation it would be okay? Talk about jumping the gun
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

A little more to it than that, but yes, I generally agree.

The bet is that whomever moved out to the boonies/mountains/beach/etc can find work elsewhere if their original company lets them go.

I bet you companies that will hire completely remote people are going to require them to take pay cuts.

Google is going back in with remote exceptions but you have to apply for it and it's only for as long as 12 months in the best case.

Look for others to fall in line with this, promptly.

I have been back in the office full time since july except when my kids involuntarily home-schooled for 5 weeks in aug/sep.

I have not seen my actual boss since last March as she has not darkened the doorway of our building since the day we left.

I believe the phase-in plan is coming soon for those still wfh, but some paper-pusher positions are transitioning to home only.

Tech companies have a lot of turnover. I'm not surprised they are pushing for in person work.

A bunch of companies are already terminating leases and forecasts are based on substantial reductions to office space costs. I don't think you'll see a ton of knee jerk back to office plans because of Google (unless it's a large company that's owns vs leases office space).
