Some validity to the question but Dikembe is really a great guy who has done as much as I think he can for his people. I just give him a lot of credit for not being a charlatan/fraud like so many celebrities/athletes with their politics/mouth/money.

It's pretty amazing how truly ugly she has become. She was on my top 5 list at one point and now she's hideous looking. Not sure what happened. Did she get work done and it went awry? She's only 52 so it's not like she should have physically transformed the way she has naturally. But maybe so.

Story sounds pretty harrowing. Cites her privilege as the reason she was able to be saved. Well, duh. Would gladly do the same. Freedom, liberty, and western values allow you to have that kind of privilege so maybe she should recognize that instead of trying to harm it being such a leftist clown now.

I agree with that. Unlike LeBron and his school, it appears Mutombo actually built this hospital with his own money-- where LeBron got other people to write the checks. On top of that, the hospital appears to be quite good by any standards. So Ashley Judd is racist for not going there-- and fleeing to a former apartheid nation.

From the story, it sounded like it was 2.5miles just to get out of the jungle. By foot. She likely got there with MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). I've flown them several times in their Cessna 208s. You are looking at landing strips that make Texas country dirt roads look paved.

There are no refueling places so whatever you fly has to be able to make a round-trip. There are no "airports" so where ever you go has to have people who can shew people and goats away.

Where would you bring a helicopter in from to that area? Entebee, Uganda might be the best hope.

I haven't been to the DRC, but I've been to Central Africa many times.

You know the risks when you go.

One of the hospitals we had to use was like 3 rooms. It had like 50 patients. Most were there for either HIV or Malaria.

Most Americans have no frame of reference for most of Africa. I encourage anyone who can, to go. But, until you've been there... nothing I've seen captures the experience.

I grew up in 3rd world countries, Camiri Bolivia in the 60s was no better or worse.

Mind you it wasn't a 4th world country, you know the ones; They aren't developing and they aren't going to.

That said, I'm pretty sure the Ugandan Military has a chopper or two that can easily be "paid for" even in the form of bakshish and a capable "guide".
