Quote:

Abbott made the announcement Thursday saying the state was going to take steps to protect the oil and gas industry while also promising to veto any "new green deal" type of legislation, should it be passed, while simultaneously proposing legislation to prevent the banning of natural gas appliances.

"I'm in Midland to make clear that Texas is going to protect the oil and gas industry from any type of hostile attack launched from Washington D.C.," Abbott said. "President* Biden's embrace of the green new deal is a job killer in Texas. It also takes a wrecking ball to the energy independence that Texas has been able to provide to the United States of America and Texas is not going to stand idly by and watch the Biden* administration kill jobs in Midland, in Odessa or any other place across the entire region."

Abbott then signed an executive order that directed every state agency to, "use all lawful powers and tools to challenge any federal action that threatens the continued strength and vitality of the energy industry. Each state agency should work to identify potential litigation, notice and comment opportunities and any other means of preventing federal overreach within the law."

And when they do that, Abbott said, "that will arm Texas to be prepared to fight back."

Abbott said he was also proposing legislation that would stop local cities and counties from acting to derail the oil and gas energy by banning natural gas appliances in new buildings. An action he said was recently taken in San Francisco.

"In Texas, we will not let cities use political correctness to dictate what energy source you use," Abbott said.

During the roundtable, Abbott spoke with oil and gas workers, energy leaders, and advocates about how Texas can continue to support workers in the wake of COVID-19 and offered reassurance he intended to protect the energy industry.

"If anybody passes a green new deal type policy in Texas it'll be met with a governor's veto and not become law in our state," Abbott said.

Abbott's entire address will be added to this article Thursday afternoon.

Abbott gets his teeth kicked in by Trump supporting conservatives and now he's trying to save his own skin.

He lacks conviction. It never should have taken this long or gone this far before he was forced to remove his head from his anus.

This is political optics sowing the seeds for potential secession. This is a shot across the bow. Think about it. You have a governor basically saying we will not let Washington tell us what to do. Its reclaiming our sovereign power. If Washington takes a heavy handed approach and people start losing their jobs as a result, the secession seeds will take root. If Congress does pass HR 1, secession will flourish. At this point, the only thing that can derail this is perhaps an Article 5 Convention of States but even that may be too late.

A state should always look out for the best interest of its citizens. Just because the elites in the northeast think we should all fall in line with what works for them, doesn't mean it works for us. Sort of like Montana shouldn't be forced to follow mask guidelines that work for NYC.

Do to Biden what the dems did to Trump.

Sue the federal government for every single EO that Biden signs in his dreamy haze. Every single one. Tie up as many dem resources as you can and slow implementation at every corner.

Republican resistance. My few dem friends try to deny that was what the nation al dem leaders and media were doing. Cognitive dissonance by definition.

Agree. For far too long, states have ceded their power to the federal government, regardless of how it impacted its citizens. I realize there is a lot of political posturing going on with Abbott right now, but this is a strong statement and shot across the bow letting the feds know Texas isn't just going to sit back any longer and blindly follow them off a cliff. He is right to reassert that Texas is a sovereign state, and that the federal overreach is going to stop, or at least be vigorously contested in the courts.

No one can look out for the best interests of Texas better than Texans.

Republicans from Bush to Perry are much to blame for the open border. I agree with you on Abbott too. Haven't heard much from him on this. The Republicans have been fine with no border. They can blame it on the federal level but we have been under Republican Governorship the whole time our state has been turning into California.
