The Federal Communications Commission has issued an unusual weekend enforcement warning that boils down to this: Don't use ham radio, CBs, FRS walkie-talkies or other personal radio services to plan crimes.

This comes as federal and local government and law enforcement officials around the country report concerns over possible terrorist attacks from disgruntled Trump supports enraged by the outcome of the election and stoked by the recent attack on the Capitol.

The Enforcement Bureau "has become aware of discussions on social media platforms suggesting that certain radio services regulated by the commission may be an alternative to social media platforms for groups to communicate and coordinate future activities," the FCC said in a statement issued Sunday morning.

"The Bureau recognizes that these services can be used for a wide range of permitted purposes including speech that is protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution," it said. But it continued in bold font: "Amateur and Personal Radio Services, however, may not be used to facilitate crimes."

I wonder if the FBI is influenced by fake news and dem narratives. Or if they just understand that the election was truly stolen and are paranoid.

Always wear your mask when planning crimes from your HAM radio. Wouldn't want the recipient getting COVID now would you?

I think everyone is in CYA mode right now. Don't want to not do something in case anything happens that might have something to do with their bailiwicks.

As a long-time Ham operator, it has always been illegal to use the public airwaves "...to commit or facilitate criminal acts."

That said, everything comes down to how you define "criminal acts". The definition seems be be getting looser every day.

Well.. saying conservative things is likely to incite violence. Therefore, only approved speech is allowed now on HAM radios.

If I were to hazard a guess more and more restrictions will be added to regulations on how to obtain and use a ham radio. No messy legislation needed, just more regulations to exclude deplorables and chumps.

Nah, they're just putting out the narrative so when their brown skirts create havoc, disguised as trumpers, they can claim right wing activism and label all Trump supporters domestic terrorist. They did it at the capital and look how well that narrative has worked. They're laughably transparent.
