As enticing as such insider information might be, it's also a national security risk and probably a lot of felonies to steal that thing and go digging through it. The damage that could be done might be serious, and goes way beyond partisan politics.

If it has national security secrets it should not have been unsecured on her desk. In general business if you are leaving your office for any reason anything that is confidential has to be locked, and many companies require 2 locks, including on the computer.

Very true! In fact, they make locks for laptops; how do I know this because I have one. We can send millions of taxpayer money to some bs country, but we can't buy laptop locks.

During the drill someone went around and went in every office not locked and checked for files on desks, computers left not tethered, or tethered, but not locked and sent a report out that had to be included in our next review. That was fun.

Dang, that's nuts! Thanks for the heads up; we haven't had a fire drill in awhile. Now I will be taking my laptop with me.
