If the govt was so freaked out about the spread of the virus, why do they allow 200+ people on airplanes for 3-5 hours, sitting inches from each other?

I'm on a packed 777 from Miami to dallas. - 3 hour flight, with 250 people.

You can't have thanksgiving with family but I can board a flight with 250 random people?

How much do you pay your Thanksgiving Dinner lobbyists and what's their budget for buying off politicians?

A good friend of mine is a VP of engineering for one of the major airlines. They have studied this ad-nauseum with Boeing and presented multiple times to Congress and others. Yes, the filter system is an added layer of purification. Also, the total cabin air is completely exchanged every 2.5 minutes (or something close to that). New air. Within that 2.5 minutes, it's filtered. Also the airflow is beneficial. Air flows from top to bottom within the cabin. Anyway, the existing air system turns out to work pretty good for this and any other pollutants. In addition, the cleaning mentioned below enhances the protection.

You can provide the science to the deniers, however, if it conflicts with their world view, they'll just ignore it. They already made up their mind and cling to some crackpot "expert" analysis.

Because the government likes picking winners and losers.

Own a restaurant that is your entire livelihood? You lose.

Pack a bunch of people in an aluminum tube shoulder to shoulder? Sounds like a winner to me.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% think airlines should be allowed to operate at full capacity, but it makes me sick what our benevolent overlords have done to small business.

Not arguing with you. I'd like to add i think the airlines present a more unified powerful lobby than private retail and small restaurants.

and everyone takes their mask off for the beverage service.

ETA: I scored the whole can of diet coke on my last flight. Winning!

A 777 takes 30 minutes to board and 30 to deplane.
1 hour without that HEPA system going.

But people can't eat outside in CA?

the air system on a plane is so clean you can't get covid-19 sitting 6 inches from someone where an handkerchief around their face.

Oh and mind you, I rode on a plane a while back and I had my Osha certified R-95 mask on over a fabric mask and the lady is like hold on that has a ventilator you have to take it off. I'm like / lady, I have a cloth mask on under it that you can see. Sorry you can't board with that on.

I'm like ok, but if I take it off and just wear the cloth one then I'm fine? Yes you are! Got it you are a straight mindless boob.

Killing the airline/travel industry completely for over a year would have led to mass revolt. The goal is control, and fear, but not revolt.
