historical family story that seems relevant here;

I have an original stars and bars flag from the civil war. Framed in protective glass. I found it when my great aunt died, in the attic of the house she lived in which was originally my Great great grandfathers house, who served as a surgeon in the confederacy. (incidentally, my great great grandfather on my dad's side of the family, served in the union).

Anyway, when I found it, it and his surgical instruments were the only artifacts from his service in the war. I was told stories that he sent every dollar he made home, but as his family was agriculturally self sufficient, they never spent any of it. It was all in Confederate currency. When he returned from the war (and the Confederacy had lost) he burned it all as it was worthless. We lamented on how much it would have been worth to collectors.

Any Texan Dollar Bill set of values would be incomplete without Col. William Barret Travis upon it. Instead of the pyramid with the "eye", it could have a rendering of The Alamo with a ribbon of words on top that says "I shall never surrender or retreat.... and on the bottom a ribbon of words "Victory or Death"
