Graft and corruption are what attract these types; like flies. They squeeze their way into the political swamp knowing that once in, they are immune to what "regular" folks have to deal with. They breathe a sigh of relief and know they are going to reap the rewards for the rest of their lives. They also know it must be protected at ALL costs

Like the Israelites after the parting of the Red Sea, they found the golden calf and are reveling and contorting in delight against the word of God.

What also find interesting is how much of our corruption involves meddling with Ukraine. That is on the Russia border. Just think about what a (strong, not weak) U.S. President would think about massive Chinese or Russian political meddling in the govt of Mexico or Canada, and you get a possible clue on why relations with Russia are not better and that there is more than one side on this.
