I don't have Twitter. I just look at whatever people link from here.
Folks have a tendency to overestimate what they see on twitter (and other social media silos they've nestled into, this forum included) as evidence for how things actually are in the world. Twitter has fewer than 50 million active users in the US, so the vast majority of Americans aren't even on there.
Twitter has replaced the traditional news article or press release. It's where breaking news happens.FPS_Dough said:

There are a lot that aren't in that 50 million that still see Twitter. Many of my friends are not on Twitter, but it reaches them too. The juicy bits tend to circulate to a lot of folks who would never sign up.texaglurkerguy said:

I have never signed up for Twitter but I could probably tell you most of the time what's going down there from nothing more than listening to people.

They bash twitter because it claims to be unbiased yet only a mouth breathing moron would believe that claim to be true.
They bash twitter because it has become a legitimate news source (and illegitimate news source as well - it's the internet after all). As a news source their censorship has become transparent.
If twitter would just let the cards fall where they may nobody would care. We'd still comment on the tweets themselves.
But you knew that of course, unless you believe their claim to be unbiased
