Wouldn't expect to book that ticket in the next 15 years.
LOL. I won't be alive in 15 years. The reason I asked was because of Las Vegas bomb guy's "manifesto" about an entirely different propulsion system, that according to him, we already had.

This stuff is not in my wheelhouse so I have little to no frame of reference to know whether something is complete BS or not. So I ask you fine folks to educate me.

Thank you for that BTW.
Vegas guy's claim was that a propulsion system exists that can distort gravity around the ship, which is a derivative claim of UFO nut Bob Lazar. Is it possible he's not just a crazy person? Sure, but odds heavily favor crazy person over legitimate reality.

Starship has the ability to achieve those travel speeds through combustion and just going really, really fast/traveling through a near vacuum. It's not speed of travel that differentiates Starship from technology from 60 years ago that makes those flight times possible, but rather Starship's ability to land after launching.

Yeah the whole point of starship earth-to-earth is that we've been able to deliver weapons for 5 decades with rockets. Starship for the first time makes it conceivably financially viable to deliver humans or supplies.

There's nothing about starship that needs goofy UFO tech to explain. But the cumulative technology really hasn't existed for very long to do this, mostly on computer control and designing.

There's a lot that is wrong about this breathless woman screaming her analysis

Why was this airspace not CLOSED to begin with?

EXPLOSION IN SPACE
Because SpaceX and the FAA calculate what Starship's ALTITUDE will be along its path. Starship was in already in SPACE (~90 miles above the earth) when it exploded.

Not quite space. You can see in this video there's enough atmosphere to provide drag on the debris. It explodes outward and experiences drag.

That "breathless woman" is a commercial airline pilot and the altitude of the ship was known at the time of the explosion. It was at 146km. It wasn't in "not quite space" it was about 4 airliner altitudes into space.
Ok, I have work experience at NASA, a MS in Physics, a pilot's license and 10 years in aviation weather and flight planning.

ETA:

Question: When it exploded at 146km over the earth's surface, did the resulting debris disappear? Was it the explosion that ATC was warning pilots about, or was it the debris?
Is 146km space or not quite space?

USSPACECOM defines their AOR as the Karman line at 100km. I'd say it's space.

Uhm, is this real?

I remember Gwynn Shotwell talking this concept during a deterrence symposium speech years ago when I was at USSTRATCOM and when starship was still called BFR. Mars is really cool and everything but I found this concept to be most fascinating. Unfortunately this ballistic trajectory mimics ICBMs and would get a bunch of adversaries spun up real quick. Although with the advancement of HGVs maybe that concern won't be as large in the coming years.

True, but in terms of this discussion the point was if the debris was affected by atmospheric drag.

Video of the explosion shows that it was affected since the debris cloud produced by the explosion was immediately and visibly shaped by atmospheric drag.

It's so funny to see people who have no idea what they are looking at talk about something. In the comments they found the people in the photo who called them alligator trout in their post on FB and non outdoors folks on twotter were thinking that's what they actually were, and not just the fishermen using that as slang for big trout.

I wouldn't worry about them being mistaken for ICBMs. These point to point deliveries would have to be to places with existing launch towers and boosters so even if they didn't have precise launch schedules they would be on predictable flight paths.

Still has a lot of holes though

IFT-6 is one where they intentionally came in hot to see the effects

I'm sure the ccp, Russia, dprk, etc will absolutely take our word for it. It's just people on this launch, definitely not a warhead coming in your general direction w/ only 30 minutes (actually a lot less) reaction time, just trust us. It's why the idea of point to point cargo transportation via rockets/missiles has never really taken off historically.

Really excited about JD Vance taking the reins of the national space council, it's been severely neglected these past few years.

In no way was what Elon did a Nazi salute. But the MSM is in full propaganda mode.

Hate to see this from Scott Manly. He's shown a pretty ugly side of himself.

That statement doesn't seem ugly to me.

I also don't think Musk was giving a nazi salute.

Because Elon's political rivals grabbed a frame out of a video of him that had nothing to do with Nazis, Scott's like, yeah why hasn't Elon said "F Nazis"? We all know what the implication he's making is, when it's completely uncalled for.

Question about Trump's comment re: putting an American flag on Mars. Didn't Elon want the spaceX notional colonization effort there to be self-governing?

Also, are they planning to move more F9 launches to the west coast now as starship ramps up in Florida?

Pretty classy letter from Bill Nelson to his successor:

Regarding Dragon recovery, I don't think anything changes by moving recovery to CA. Landing the capsule is just one step in the process and it wouldn't surprise me if all capsules are going through SpaceX facilities in California anyway. So maybe they're just trying to save a FL>CA>FL trip.
