Her remodel was a renovation, based on the original blueprints/design of Jackie Kennedy, from 1962. This was a nod to history, and to a Dem First Lady.

People are freaking out online, because they consider the removal of two small trees on the sides 'destroying our history'. I've never seen so much wailing over a garden.

Think about that.

Think about that in context of what's been happening in our country lately. Destruction of actual history, tearing down of monuments, stripping names, and history from buildings/schools/monuments, etc....

Again, because ONLY university and then sound-byte ("news") educated. Things like the history of the White House grounds you only learn by reading up on history AFTER and OUTSIDE of school. Unless some prof happens to mention it, its not an item that you study or should. You have to keep taking things into your brain outside of school and the press. If you don't you won't know things like such odd trivia and facts.

For those that care, the history of the White House grounds makes for very entertaining reading---all the foibles of the various First families that have occupied it and what they changed, and got changed right back --sometimes out of spite from the successor.

Its inexplicable isn't it? One possibility is the plans had attached pergolas or wings that were omitted as they were being constructed. Or originally had a different shaped wing, or less one, and they added a fourth.

But that's just shooting from the hip from other architecture builds have read about---its damn hard to explain, UNLESS its construction pre-dates WW II.

Yes, we had a "sub-level" discussion going on about that building. Its absolutely baffling it if was constructed as-is post WW II. But was it? Or did it change over construction or time.

I've seen multiple complaints today about her turning the garden 'White' (even though it's not blooming yet, and there is visible colors in the garden)...along with the K reference.
