Geopolitics isn't a one way street. Nixon and Kissinger opened China and built up Pakistan...damn that sure worked out for us. The russians can be under the impression that Trump might lead to one thing and then it actually leads to another. This is where "actions speak louder than words" comes in, and if you're really just taking these things at face value then you need to think harder.

Let's not even take into the account that Iran is a de facto Russian ally. Trump putting pressure on Iran is also putting pressure on Russia. You have to just be totally ignorant of foreign affairs if you don't notice the difference between the handling of Russia from both administrations regardless of what the Kremlin says. Trump's bolstering of the relations between us and eastern europe (most notably poland) is something Obama never did. He loathed the slavs and instead yucked it up with the western europeans.
