I finally heard a credible reason as to why they stupidly chose to put those patients back into the nursing homes, apparently they forecasted a need for over 100,000 hospital beds, likely based on all the ridiculous models that the "experts" put together. At their peak they ended up only needing one fifth the amount (~19,000).

The fact we continue to listen to these same "experts" is a mystery to me and anyone else that awful at their job would be fired a long time ago.

It was unbelievable how after we saw all what happened in NYC, we still went this route.

All we needed was to let the young and healthy spread this, keep it out of nursing homes, and strongly recommend the elderly social distance as much as possible. Would have never overwhelmed hospitals with just a common sense approach. Keep it from being so highly publicized. 99.99% of the country would be better for it right now.

Very simple.

They had a chaotic response with the State and Local government's in disarray and reflexively panicked and sent nursing home patients that were sick back to nursing homes to free up space in hospitals that they never needed. Then they proceeded to kill 1/6th of the people in Nursing homes because COVID is really only dangerous with the elderly. All the states that didn't protect the elderly had massive death totals.

If you look at Austin for instance about 3% of all cases are 80+ but they are just short of 40% of the deaths. Once you get below 50 you have lots of cases and fewer and fewer deaths.

The "we got hit first" argument is also BS. Washington got hit first and it was hit in a nursing home where they had a bunch of fatalities. They locked up the nursing homes after that and their numbers have been very average. This was about mismanagement in the NE States. Take those deaths out and the US numbers are significantly different.

Good point about Washington. They should be pointed to as getting it right. Not NY. Total joke that Fauici pointed to NY, the death epicenter of the US as doing it right.

Florida also did it right. At the time NY was getting all the deaths and Cuomo getting praised, Desantis was getting killed for having beaches open yet I think I heard a stat that at that time not one person in that huge retirement mecca The Villages (around Orlando I think) had a case of Covid.

NYC is more dense than DC but NY state is pretty large and spread out.

Several reasons, but the three biggest are probably:

• Population density
• Governor Cuomo's dumbassery with nursing homes.
• Hit there hard early before better ways of treating it were known. Mix that with the first two and disastrous results
