Anyone here switching their vote from 2016?

I'm curious how many people here (and nationally) are like me. My wife and I were big Cruz supporters in 2016 and on principal voted 3rd party in the general election. I thought Trump would be a de facto big spending democrat. Now, it was an easy vote b/c we knew Hillary had no chance to win Texas.

I'm not happy with everything Trump has done (see debt, spending) but it's been more good than bad. In 2020 the thought of a Biden presidency is downright scary, so we'll be voting Trump.

If nothing else, Trump has a loyal base. Maybe as loyal as obama's. Certainly more loyal than W's. I just can't imagine many Trump '16 voters switching to Biden '20.

Likewise, at the end of the day, dems vote for dems. Anyone who voted Hillary is certainly voting for Biden (maybe twice).

So I believe 2020 comes down to:

1) Election integrity. Add in widespread mail-in voting and forget it. Biden wins easily.

2) Influx of new, young voters in their first election. I have no idea how large this number is, but an increase in young voters certainly favors democrats and their "free everything" platform.

3) How many former "never Trumpers" like myself will show up for Trump?

TL;DR Anyone here switching their vote?

I went from anti-HRC to pro-Trump. Thanks for the 4-year fit a**holes! Nice job of making Americans stand up!

Didn't vote for Trump in 2016. Seriously considering giving him a "spite" vote in 2020 simply because I'm sick and tired of democrats telling me I ought to be locked in my house and called a racist.

Good decision process for 2016.
  • Biden and whomever his VP might be are absolutely scary.
  • Trump has said a ton of stupid stuff but, he hasn't really done anything terrible other than debt which was encouraged by Congress.

Similar boat as you. It was the first election I could vote in and didn't want my first vote to go to someone I deemed "un-presidential". I admit I would've voted for Trump had I lived in a battle ground state because I hate Hillary, but I didn't see the point in wasting my time voting third party when Texas was solidly going to go red anyway.

Now, I still think Trump is an ass, and if he would just put the phone down and stop tweeting he'd have save himself a lot of trouble, but I'd vote for him any day over what the Democrats have created in their party.

AOC's Green New Deal is the singular biggest threat to American security/global superiority and the fact that a large faction of the Democratic Party supports it is mind blowing. I can't believe my industry is supposed to be removed from existence even though it creates carbon free electricity 24/7. The Green New Deal being passed is the ultimate CCP wetdream. Dems can say Biden doesn't support it but he has said AOC would be on his climate change committee and that's all I need to know about how bat**** crazy it will be.

voted 3rd party in 2016. Can't stand the LP VP pick.

I have no idea who I'm voting for, but it sure won't be Trump or Biden.

Trump in 2016, Trump in 2020. I have never voted for a Democrat in any state or national election, and I don't see that ever changing.

Same here. Libertarian who doesn't like Trump's personality or spending, but realizing he is perfect for exposing the media's dishonest reporting. If anyone is working to hack the election in 2016/20, it's the US press. I also realize Biden is only the nom to defend against the Durham indictments coming, and voting for Trump ensures that our country deals with the worst gov abuse of power since Lincoln. (ie Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Ohr, Susan Rice etc.)

Still Libertarian at the top. Hoped to switch back to the Democrats, but can't bring myself to vote Biden and the party is veering too far left fiscally.

I'd not vote at all before casting a ballot for Trump, but it's not like he's going to do anything catastrophic for me personally as a white, straight, male attorney. For the nation as a whole that's a different matter. JMO and no need to try to change it on this thread.

I will happily vote Trump this year. First day of early voting...I'm there.

All true.

This is an easy election. And remember the Media moguls pushing the Democrat narrative 24/7 are all rich and impervious to any of those forces of chaos and decline, so its not like they have anything to say about real people's situations in such a Green New Deal deprviation.

Here's the thing, as one put it so crassly the other day --- Trump's a New Yorker, a classic kind of a-hole NY style that is both liked or hated depending on how touchy you are. But they get things done. That is what he is. The `concerned moderate' variety on the right have accomplished close to nothing since Reagan.

Trump may be an a-hole a times, but he is generally being an a-hole toward greater jackanapes and usually unaccountable people, so fine. He's a New Yorker by minting.

Not worth throwing out all this good in exchange for re-branded communism.

Voted Trump in 2016 with lukewarm enthusiasm. Really just voting against hilldawg. Liked Rubio and Cruz better during the primaries.

Now will enthusiastically vote trump and donate $.

Well the question was anyone changing their vote, so your answer wasn't really clear.

Write in vote in 2016, Trump 2020 would've been clearer.

Who did you write in, in 2016?

So still voting for losers. At least you're consistent.

You're now voting for a man who has full-on dementia.

And you're proud of it.

That's a thoughtful take. Libertarians need to realize that unfortunately all their high-detail and extremely `political process' arguments about the 16th and especially the obscure 17th Amendment are wasted on a `swipe left' generation. They need to find a ridiculously charismatic and good talker candidate to run. Substance has nothing to do with the products of the present American education system, and the more nuanced aspects of the Libertarian arguments require that kind of more incisive learning.

Maybe even a name change to `Federalist Party' might work better, and draw attention to the Constitutional aspects most eroded.

Didn't vote at all in 2016 because I disliked both candidates, and it was the first time since 1982 that I failed to vote. Definitely voting Trump this go around. I cannot stand what the left is doing to this country. I'm woke....but that's because the left "woke me up!"
