Just so F16 users are prepared, there WILL be mass kneelings at NFL games this fall and NBA games this winter.

This is not going away any time soon, so you might as well be ready for it.

no, not caught "offguard".

I understand, and that is their right.

It is also my right to support some form of entertainment that does NOT remind me of divisive political issues.

They have a right to be wrong.

I have a right to not support them with views, clicks, monetary support, etc...

I'd rather go watch neighborhood kids play gaga ball.
People keep responding to my post, so I guess I should address.

I am not for kneeling as it is extremely disrespectful to our flag, our country and our military. There are plenty of ways to address issues, but this is a crappy way to do it. The military and our flag has nothing to do with police.

I don't watch MLB, NBA, and don't watch the NFL the last few years since everyone got woke.

I was just saying that people should not be shocked when they kneel. They are going to kneel, they are going to make political statements, and they are going to piss off a bunch of fans. Be ready for it.

If you didn't like Politics in Sports before, get ready cause I have a feeling we are in for a doozy of a fall sports season, if we have one at all. I fully expect to see Aggies kneeling, but hopefully Jimbo will keep them off the field to not give them a platform.

I fully expect some kids to disrespect Spirit of Aggieland or something else to protest Sully at the games to show the old white racists.

I think it's shortsighted to say yes, we ignored it in the media and academia but its OK to ignore it again in Hollyweird and sports. Until athletes' salaries start being impacted by reduced fan participation, they won't change their behavior. I won't pay to watch someone to spit in my country's face, especially these rich, entitled chumps.

Fair enough. I didn't necessarily ignore it in academia and the media. I was just too busy earning a living and trying to improve my family's lot in life to be focused on it. Your point of checking out on baseball and mine are different. At this point I don't think it's anywhere close to all of the MLB players that are on board with the BS . Most just want to play baseball and earn a living. Rather I think it's just like out in general society, there are a handful of loud mouthed malcontents and the press tries to make you believe it's a much larger movement than it really is. Also, the fringe ML players and minor league system players will get hurt. They aren't rich and entitled.

But why post it here?

And it ain't about the flag.
So, they kneel when the anthem is playing, at which time everyone faces the flag and placed their hand on their heart or salutes if they are military.

So what IS it about, if not the flag.
This thread and the millions of others that will happen over the course of the next month
Off topic, but won' t there be something you find even more vexing? Is it true that the DH just became the NL standard too, so league wide?
Fortunately half the league is smart

I spent 40+ years watching or listening to every Astros games possible.

I wanted them to win the World Series for two reasons: I hate the Dodgers. I got to talk to my Daddy every night during that post season run. Astros games were our thing. Sometimes the rest of the family were allowed to invade it, but not often. I have no doubt Daddy would have spent anything for us to go had I still lived in BCS. It would have been like game 6 of the NLCS in 86. That was our time.

But, I no longer really cared about the regular season other than to be amazed at how well their farm system was doing once they moved. It proves good drafting and not just bucks can make winners.

Anyway, that was a derail of your joke.

Unfortunately, it was only half in jest! I heard that it is in the rules being proposed--- I just don't know if they "formalized' yet. They really are thinking about it being league-wide.

I was for the Astros very similar reasons---vividly remember getting to visit the Astrodome for a two games just after finished, (it was 1972 so the year after) and ever since then made an impression -- also their name and connection to NASA which I was totally into at the time.

I was for them to the extreme in the world series also because of Houston friends and the horrible drama they had recently gone through -- it seemed like the Saints winning after Katrina. Also, after the Rangers, Astros were a Texas team of course. Same reason root for the Texans after Cowboys.

As far as I know that's only for this specific shortened season... not permanent. Also starting all extra innings with a runner on 2B I guess in an effort tto shorten average game times?

I was very disappointed when the Astros basically got forced to move to the AL, primarily because of the DH rule but also because of the NL history . While it worked out pretty well for the Astros I miss real baseball.

I didn't understand why some smaller market team with AL history or more sensible geography couldn't go to the AL . Brewers... Diamondbacks... Rockies . I hate the AL West mostly because of all of the late game times for us CST dwellers.

The first amendment means the government can't punish you because of what you say.

At this point in 2020, I'm honestly shocked that mindless leftists still trot this trope out.

I think free speech rights need to be expanded. If there are protected classes in private employment based on your gender, race, or sexuality, it is a natural bridge to say your political views should likewise be protected.

If that means I can tell HR to go fly a kite when they want me to do diversity training or read leftist propaganda, then I'll at least consider it an honest proposal. Something tells me that that's not how enforcement would work though.

I don't see how placing additional rules on the business/employee relationship would be enforceable.
I think it concerning that Cisco fired some employees for not toeing the line within the company. Yeah, they are a private company....but I am troubled by where we seem to be today with wrongthink and the overall cancel culture extending itself also to things like the domain registrars and internet backbone and Google/Facebook/Twitter. These guys have near market dominance in their areas. It's really not possible to find a viable alternative to them.

I've declined several interviews from tech and green energy firms due to concerns over their political cultures.

I know the talk, but I don't buy it.

That will lose more fans than some people kneeling.

I literally don't know what I would do.
I lasted so far this year without it and you can find old games online.

I think they may think about trying it this partial season and realize how many millions they drove away.
Millions like me were never for Interleague play. There is no rivalry with the Rangers for long term Astros fans. They were the other Texas team that didn't play real baseball

Doing that permanently would change the view landscape for at least 2 decades.

Taking a knee before a game is easy and does nothing.

Taking action and helping make a change in the city/community you play in would be much more effective.

Nobody wants politics in their sports. I am not sure how difficult that is to understand. If people stop watching the games, the players contracts will eventually take a hit.

Selig's daughter wanted them to stay because she thought the Central was easier than the AL west. Or that is what I read somewhere during the theft season

I would bet quite a bit of money that we never see a pitcher bat again. The DH is here to stay.

And I absolutely detest Bud Selig. To me there is Stalin, Mao, Selig, Che, etc. He is the devil.

THe Astros should be in the NL and the Brewers should be in the AL.

It really really sucks having the Astros and Rangers in the same league.

I grew up in Ft Worth in the 80s, and was a Rangers fan first. When we got cable we thought we were the ***** There was a channel called HSE that had about 100 Rangers games but also had maybe 40 Astros games. We also had WGN-Cubs and Turner- Braves.

So I grew up rooting for both the Astros and Rangers and never had a problem because they never played. Then I went to A&M plus six years in Houston and was there during the 2005 WS.

As an adult i was split 50-50 between Rangers and Astros.

Now my kids feel like they have to choose. I never will, but see why they do.

Conservatives complain and complain about "cancel culture", but they will "cancel" entities like Target, ESPN, Starbucks, MLB, NFL, NBA, Disney at the drop of a hat because those entities support considerations towards individuals that want to express themselves politically at an inconvenient time. If you're watching baseball to ensure that all of the players are standing during the anthem, you probably weren't much of a fan to begin with. I can't remember the last time I "made sure" to tune in so I could watch the anthem. A lot of y'all act like it's the highlight of your viewing experience.
