So I found out yesterday from my wife that this is apparently no longer PC. I was just teaching my son this sitting style the other day. When did this happen? I never was offended at all by this in school and I appreciate my Native American heritage. I know tons of folks are overly sensitive to an extreme now and were not raised to have thicker skin...just growing quite tired of one more thing people are trying to change for no good reason.

Are you saying that you can't actually physically sit that way or that you can't refer to it as "Indian Style"?

Either one is stupid

It isn' t called Indian style anymore. Not for a long time. Kids still sit that way.

When you hear somebody say that, pretend like you don't know what it is, make them explain it or show you, and then say "oh, you mean Indian style."

I feel like I am going off the reservation here, but isn't "Indian style" more a reference to yoga than anything? I guess one could say yoga style but there are multiple ways to sit.

The funny part is that it refers to Indians in India, not Native Americans. The term comes from England, and refers to the lotus style, the cross-legged style of sitting during meditation.

This is the correct answer.

Also, I immediately respond to anyone who uses the phrase "African-American" with the question, "How do you know XXXXX is from Africa?" or "I did not know XXXXX is from Africa. What a great story XXXX must have becoming an American"

Yeah, well if you take the skins off then you're left with all white apples. What are you going to do then?
