Since they are no longer open to the public, couldn't they get around Governor Fifthwheel's mask order?

(This is not wheelchair joke. His mask order is a big trailer on the TX economy that 1/2 the people can't afford, hence the nickname)

Private clubs are already governed by occupancy rules and subject to fire marshal inspections, local health codes, and TABC regulation.

I actually wonder if a speakeasy could make it today in our panopticon snitch culture.

Ethically I'd have no problem if it were possible. Closest place I ever knew was upstairs from a downtown business and accepted "donations to pitch in" for after hours parties. Dude eventually opened a legit bar though.

Or they could just tell the governor to **** off.

He's already shown he doesn't have the stones to take this all the way.

If you have ever been to Spain you are familiar with the idea of tapas.

Buy a drink and it comes with a free small appetizer.

How about bars start to offer a small appetizer with a free drink.

Buy a pop tart for $5-6, get a Dos Equis

Not sure if this violates any TABC rules, but It could make bars sales come from food and not drink.

The longer this BS lasts, the more creative people will get in order to survive. Necessity is the mother of invention, and they can't put us all in jail. We need to be willing to push back, and have each other's back.

I'd pay extra for some chips and salsa and a drink in public

They used to give you free beer at about 50% of western wear stores.

Restaurants are still open, but let's not let facts get in the way of a good rant.

I said the same thing before. You buy "expensive" popcorn or peanuts, and it comes with a token that you trade for a drink. Or like you said, a free drink.

The microbrewerys sell you tokens that you turn in for a beer. Same concept. Or how about byob and we charge you for the glass, setup, decorking, etc. You could probably make enough to keep the doors open until this blows over in 2022.
