It's official: we are in a "deep" solar minimum.

Solar Minimum is officially "deep." 2019 has just broken a Space Age record for days without sunspots. Moreover, an international panel of scientists led by NOAA and NASA predicts that Solar Minimum could deepen even further, not reaching its lowest point until April of 2020.

Solar Minimum definitely alters the character of space weather. Solar flares and geomagnetic storms subside, making it harder to catch Northern Lights at mid-latitudes. Space weather grows "quiet." On the other hand, cosmic rays intensify. The sun's weakening magnetic field allows more particles from deep space into the solar system, boosting radiation levels in Earth's atmosphere.

GRAND SOLAR MINIMUMS AND THE FALL OF EMPIRES A GREAT CRASH LOOMS
OCTOBER 11, 2018
Earth is gradually sliding into its next Ice Age, and has been doing so for the past 10,000 years now modern civilization is on the cusp of a stratospheric fall, and it's all to do with the sun.

Societies flourish during times of warmth and high solar activity the periods of Minoan, Roman and Medieval Warming are evidence of this.

Civilizations are built on the presumed constant and predictable climate that comes with solar maximums, and man's reliance on its own fragile infrastructures only grows as the decades of reliable climate pass.

But when the constant is broken, it's broken fast and the system can't adapt quickly enough to cope with the descending cold.

Overlaying the peak of past civilizations atop the GISP2 Ice Core data clearly illustrates the pattern:

RISE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE
If we look at the Roman Empire, it's apparent the sun was at the heart of everything.

The period from 200 BC to 150 AD when the Roman project was at its most healthy also coincided with what is often referred to as the 'Roman Climate Optimum', when the weather warmed up due to high solar activity.

Pliny the Elder, writing in the first century AD, described how beech trees, which used to grow only in the lowlands, started climbing up mountains as the temperature rose. Olives and vines were grown further and further north. The Empire became a giant greenhouse.

But the weather drastically deteriorated in 150400 AD when solar output dropped the 'Roman Transitional Period' and hit temperature lows in the 'Late Antique Little Ice Age' from 450700 AD.

Growing seasons were shortened, food shortages ensued, disease became rampant, millions died and the Empire fell apart.

It's Climate Change, I tell ya. Climage Change.

We've got to quit releasing greenhouse gases into the solar atmosphere before it is too late.

Its amazing the Democratic Party and left doesn't seem to have ever realized this. It was the periods of marked cooling like the `little Ice Age' that put the brakes on things. I have said before technology has greater power to compensate for slight ticks upward in heat than it does ticks downward in cold.

If we start pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere would that stop the global cooling? (j/k). But mark my words - IF the predictions of global cooling take hold, look for a NEW UN panel focused on the NEW issue and lots of hysteria about the change in climate being all MAN'S fault, followed by all kinds of cockamamie ideas on how we can stop it of only we just spend trillions of dollars, much of it transfers to third world countries.

The pattern of irrational, illogical, and hysterical reaction to PERCEIVED threats to our civilization has been set. But there really IS one threat we should probably turn our attention to - an asteroid hitting the earth. Maybe we can get some ideas from Hollywood on how to tackle that threat. (Only partly kidding on this one - the threat, while not likely to happen, IS real.)

Why? Really. Bluntly put the third word is largely useless for such matter. Only the most cutting edge science is going to address either a cooling threat or an impact threat. The time for a third world approach would be if reduced back to caves. Not before.

its all about how you view reality. Those two animations show the same thing (planets orbiting the sun) but viewed from different perspectives they appear to be completely different.

Is there climate change? Yes, absolutely, always has been. Is it man made and can we stop it via taxes and 'reducing emissions'? Absolutely not.

@titan - Developing countries need vast amounts of money to adapt to "climate change" - so says the UN:

https://unfccc.int/news/developing-countries-need-urgent-support-to-adapt-to-climate-change

Quote:

The International Monetary Fund has called on developed nations to take urgent measures to help climate-vulnerable developing countries better cope with the impacts of climate change.

Such measures include financing targeted infrastructure projects and mechanisms to share risk through financial markets.

The IMF's latest World Economic Outlook report warns that the economies of developing countries are facing accelerating climate threats, as evidenced by recent hurricanes in the Caribbean and Latin America and the extreme floods in Asia and Africa.

"Climate Change" can go either way - hotter or colder. If developing countries need money to adapt to global warming, they will also need it to adapt to global cooling. That's just the way it works, don't you know.

So, who though putting UV radiation on a place that NEVER gets it and likely is not adapted or conditioned for exposure WOULDN'T be a problem? Besides which it is absolutely pointless, given the tiny surface area vs all the other surface area available to use to manufacture vitamin D. This sounds like a prank to fool idiots into doing something stupid.

Developing countries needed to have adopted western european core values, limited corruption as much as posssible, engaged in free enterprise and built infrastructure, education, and an economy.

Short of that it will always be just the most corrupt in power, with enough seething, useless subjects as the food and water availble allows the population to swell. Doesnt matter what the climate numbers do or how much our own corrupt, anti western core value leaders steal from us and launder through 3rd world aid and 'climate initiatives' to line their own pockets.

If it stays the same or gets warmer, there will be 5-7 billion useless, seething, downtrodden, uneducated, semi starving third worlders. If it gets much colder, there will only be a billion or less seething, downtrodden, uneducated, semi starving third worlders.

At the risk of being called cold and heartless, or perhaps even a monster, but what are the odds of a new Ice Age causing widespread famine in the developing world or places like China and India? Because, in reality, the AGW disciples should understand that the most likely way to mitigate mankind's impact on the Earth is dramatic population reduction.

A true global cooling event on the order of magnitude of previous mini-ice ages *will* have dramatic impacts on society.

Starvation and shortages were common in previous global cooling events. The real testament to man's technological advancement will be determined if we can continue to feed the population through the next one.

We should be good right? How long do solar minimum's last? Sounds like we're okay until the begining of the next Solar Maxiumum. That's what 400 years away.

The Norks have already done that IIRC.

ETA - on phone or I would post a link but a goog search revealed the first man to the sun was a 17 yo North Korean who travelled at night to avoid the sun's harsh rays. And it only took him 4 hours round trip!

A wonderful book written by Henrik Svensmark & Nigel Calder " The Chilling Stars " explains all this. The Sun controls climate change not CO2. Cosmic Rays are stardust protons from exploding stars that infiltrate earths atmosphere. When the Sun's Magnetic Field is strong they are deflected, when weak, they penetrate and produce low level clouds that cool the earth.
