The reality is the GOP has already done -- multiple times -- exactly what it keeps threatening to do more of in the future if Trump is impeached. Thus the threats by current Congressional R's draws roars of laughter from Dems, and the R's can't figure out why.

In the past, the Dems have allowed the R's to play dirty because they kept thinking surely the next group of R's would be more principled. But that never happens. Each successive group of Congressional R's has gotten worse. So they're done with hoping R's are gonna change. The Dems have accepted that the GOP has turned its back on democratic norms.
