I saw someone joke online that the key to getting a conviction in the senate is to time the trial to be after the filing deadlines for GOP primary challenges.
I don't think that's a joke. Sadly. And could be a good strategy, assuming there is anything really impeachable in Trump's conduct. I haven't seen it thus far but in the words of Scarlett O'Hara fast forwarded to the age of Trump, "Tomorrow is another day!"

Not complaining because it has been a helluva ride but some days I wake up wondering what fresh hell will this day bring.

Margaret Mitchell and Dorothy Parker in the same post. Imagine that!

Pulling that would result in every Republican who votes for impeachment or conviction being voted out in the general election and they know it. People would cast protest votes or stay home.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

So would the Senate even accept articles on the basis of what they have now plus what would be a bogus obstruction article?

I guess Pelosi doesn't care as she can tell her constituency that she tried.

That's great and all but has absolutely nothing to do with Guiliani. Putting his picture along side that story is misleading, at a minimum.

Clarification about Guiliani's role. Apparently these guys have been his clients on unrelated matters in the past.

Trey Gowdy Joins Trump's Legal Team Amid Impeachment Inquiry

Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy is joining to work with President Donald Trump's private legal team amid an impeachment inquiry pushed by the Democrat-led House.

"I am pleased to announce that former Congressman Trey Gowdy is joining our team as counsel to the president," said Jay Sekulow, Trump's attorney, in a statement Wednesday night.

"I had known Trey for years and worked with him when he served in Congress. His legal skills and his advocacy will serve the president well. Trey's command of the law is well known, and his service on Capitol Hill will be a great asset as a member of our team."

Gowdy, 55, had served as chairman of the House oversight committee from 2017.

It's become quite clear that the only real goal here is to throw as much **** against the wall and see what will stick...

The endgame is not impeachment...the endgame is to drum up enough anti-Trump sentiment before election day to try to overcome a sitting President's high chances of re-election while presiding over a booming economy...

This is the only way left to try to protect RBG's seat from going to a conservative...

OCTOBER 8, 2019
PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement when the White House asserted that the Administration will not comply with House Committee subpoenas as part of the impeachment inquiry, making false claims about the Constitution, House rules and House precedent:
"For a while, the President has tried to normalize lawlessness. Now, he is trying to make lawlessness a virtue. The American people have already heard the President's own words 'do us a favor, though.' The President's actions threaten our national security, violate our Constitution and undermine the integrity of our elections. The White House letter is only the latest attempt to cover up his betrayal of our democracy, and to insist that the President is above the law.
"This letter is manifestly wrong, and is simply another unlawful attempt to hide the facts of the Trump Administration's brazen efforts to pressure foreign powers to intervene in the 2020 elections. Despite the White House's stonewalling, we see a growing body of evidence that shows that President Trump abused his office and violated his oath to 'protect, preserve and defend the Constitution.'
"The White House should be warned that continued efforts to hide the truth of the President's abuse of power from the American people will be regarded as further evidence of obstruction.
"Mr. President, you are not above the law. You will be held accountable."

Yes, we need statutes or case law.

At least the White House Letter cited case law, precedent, statutes, the constitution, etc.

All we get from Dems is vague allegations, and the media fighting to kiss their anal orifices like a dozen piglets fighting for 8 nipples never ask for clarification or specificity.

I'll 100% back any and all house subpoenas once they vote for an impeachment inquiry. House republicans should be filing a lawsuit against the majority for not following house rules.

This is such a clown show.

Actually, .I think they could use anything, and the stenographers in the press would willingly oblige with headlines, but I'm pretty sure they'll go with two things: 1. the quid pro quo on the phone call, and 2. obstruction for refusing subpoenas. Now, the fact none of that is true or accurate is beside the point.

I spoke with my congressman last night at a fund raiser, but the only thing he said was the consensus among Republicans on the Hill was impeachment was coming. I said the Dems pretty much HAVE to do it now, not to mention the idea of all news agencies saying "the impeached President Trump" next year for six months before the election.

The 2020 Democratic candidate with whom the CIA whistleblower had a "professional" tie is Joe Biden, according to intelligence officers and former White House officials.

Lawyers for the whistleblower said he had worked only "in the executive branch." The Washington Examiner has established that he is a career CIA analyst who was detailed to the National Security Council at the White House and has since left. On Sept. 26, the New York Times reported that he was a CIA officer. On Oct. 4, the newspaper added that he "was detailed to the National Security Council at one point."

Michael Atkinson, the Intelligence Community's inspector general, told members of Congress that the whistleblower had a "professional tie" to a 2020 Democratic candidate. He had written earlier that while the whistleblower's complaint was credible, he had shown "some indicia of an arguable political bias ... in favor of a rival political candidate."

A retired CIA officer told the Washington Examiner: "From everything we know about the whistleblower and his work in the executive branch then, there is absolutely no doubt he would have been working with Biden when he was vice president."

As an experienced CIA official on the NSC with the deep knowledge of Ukraine that he demonstrated in his complaint, it is probable that the whistleblower briefed Biden and likely that he accompanied him on Air Force Two during at least one of the six visits the 2020 candidate made to the country.
