I believe it. My first 1-1/2 years of high school were in Monterey, CA and we had a smoking area for the students on campus. That was 1984-85. It's incredible how much those things have changed.

We did at Marshall high school. I think it got shut down a year or two before I got there (I was class of '94). I think you had to have a note from your parents but nobody really ever checked. After that, kids would just go smoke behind the grange building and the OCO didn't worry about it.
