This bill has nothing to do with "protecting gay rights and marriage" it has to do with punishing the others that don't agree with it and support traditional marriage. You're really not understanding that?

You're completely missing the point. This issue never should have been left to SCOTUS to decide. This is 100% a legislative issue yet the Democrats refused to do their job and represent their supposed constituents on gay marriage or abortion. The overturning of Roe was the court saying they would no longer do the legislature's job for them and now they are applying that lesson. That the bill sucks is an entirely different issue from the fact that SCOTUS forced democrats to stop using social issues to pander for votes. It's a massive win for the people who vote for their elected officials with the belief that they will do their jobs and solve problems. Now for the first time in a couple of decades we can hold congressmen accountable for their votes instead of their platitudes.

In the future, if an organization for a church supports traditional marriage and say they don't support gay marriage or refuse to perform a gay marriage, they can be targeted.

Did you read the last quote in my post? Churches/mosques/synagogues will not be forced to perform gay marriages nor threatened with loss of tax-exempt status for not recognizing gay marriages.
Quote:

Once again the left is trying to push through a bill that doesn't even need to be done. Just like the so-called 'don't say gay' bill that had nothing to do with saying anyone was gay in Florida that they kept pushing and people believed, it's along those lines.
The misnamed "don't say gay" bill in Florida was not pushed through by Dems, it was a Republican bill with the goal of ending grooming in schools. The "don't say gay" moniker was simply propaganda from the Dem side to make people fear the bill.

I agree this is a complete "do nothing" bill where the Dems are trying to celebrate a non-existent accomplishment. However, finding the potential for persecution in this bill when Reps have assured there will be no consequences for religious organizations for refusing to recognize these unions borders on paranoia.

The only 'punishment' religious organizations are susceptible to is 'cancellation' by the woke left, same as it was prior to this bill being passed.

Ben Shapiro has been talking about this quite a bit, and one of his main points is essentially this:
The only exemptions are religious freedom excuses. If you're non religious and still don't want to bake the cake, then clearly you're a bigot and can be compelled to do so under threat of law. Plus it also paints those with religious beliefs as extremists and weirdos.

Essentially, everything the left wants celebrated is normal and wonderful. If you don't agree then you're either a religious weirdo or you're a bigot. Normal societal values must be changed to comply with what the left wants.

Freedom of speech and freedom to avoid compelled speech is a first amendment right, not a religious exemption.

I think I heard this described as the waterfall line: cities on the east coast arose on rivers at the furthest point that boats could reach from the ocean. Initially because the "end of the line" forces goods to be loaded / offloaded so they became nature commerce hubs, and then subsequently the water wheel was a natural augmentation for local geography and need (processing interior raw goods to be loaded and traded) so industrialization helped to push these cities even further ahead.

Now the Blue skid mark that curls around the Appalachians is those cities that were founded because of their common geography.

In this case, the seashore during the Cretaceous allowed for that area to have the most fertile soil, at a time when Alabama was tied to cotton. The descendants of slaves never left the area and that demographic votes blue.

Look at the date of cotton production in the image.

I'm curious, how are people who don't agree with it being punished?

From a NYT article:

Quote:

In a condition that Republican backers in the Senate insisted upon, the measure would guarantee that religious organizations would not be required to provide any goods or services for the celebration of any marriage, and could not lose tax-exempt status or other benefits for refusing to recognize same-sex unions.
Religious organizations are not being punished so who is being punished here?

I agree with the people who say it is much ado about nothing because they already had these rights so this is just them celebrating passing a 'sky is blue' bill.
Religious organizations are supposedly protected in the language, but not individuals such as bakers or photographers. If you could be legally sued and endlessly harassed before this bill, you can (and will be) afterward. The Democrats refused to consider an amendment which would have protected business owners so this was not an oversight. Hope that helps.

Can y'all take this to the thread about the bill? You're hijacking's a thread that's supposed to be funny political tweets/memes. This started on this thread with a tweet that the bill was useless and I countered that and it's spun off the rails. Still this conversation doesn't belong in this thread.

In Alabama we call it the "black belt". It was used in years past to describe the soil, but lately people use it to describe the racial makeup of the population as well. Im sure "that's racist" will be the reply from the wokesters on the board.
