We used to go a place in Bellaire called The Hong Kong Chef that was exactly like this. When we first started, in the '90s, the old couple ran the place and their daughter and son-in-law helped out. The older couple retired and the younger couple took over. Unfortunately, they sold it out shortly before HEB decided to rebuild their store and demolished the whole strip center for the two story parking garage. I went in once and asked where Mimi was, and was greeted with "Who?" We've been looking for food that good ever since. Our kids were always entertained by the older couple yelling at each other.

Years and years ago (40-43) in a little strip center there was a similar Italian restaurant called Capprichio's. You walked in and sat down and ate whatever Mama C and her boys were cooking that night. No menu. Just some of the best Italian food I've had to this day.

We pick up from JJ Garden on Beechnut at 610 on occasion. Grandma takes orders, husband and wife cook, grandkids in the first booth doing homework or rolling takeout cutlery.
