Have any of you ever been to a Tridentine Mass? I used to go when I was in Colorado Springs. I'm looking for one in Houston. I think it's really cool, albeit very old world.

Annunciation, the church near Minute Maid Park, has an approved Tridentine Mass every Sunday for its 8:00 AM service.

Yes, very beautiful, but not very funeral friendly.

The Tridentine Mass is the closest thing to Godly worship on earth there is. Why the Catholic Church jettisoned it after Vatican II is something I will never understand.

In lieu of that, the Anglican Use Catholic high Mass, which combines the very beautiful Anglican Rite with the Catholic Mass is very beautiful also. Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston has that rite.

There is only ONE Tridentine mass in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. It's at the Annunciation church in downtown Houston at 8:00am on Sundays.

You can always check mass times throughout the entire U.S. (and many foreign nations) at:

http://www.masstimes.org

The zip for downtown Houston is 77002. I've looked in the past, and this is the only licit Tridentine mass there is in Houston. However, the church is BEAUTIFUL and I am quite sure the masses there will be beautiful, too. Very old fashioned....

As a fairly new Catholic, I have yet to experience a Tridentine, but I plan to at some point. I'm worried I won't understand the liturgy as it is so different

Sadly, the Tridentine Rite is still valid, but discouraged. Heck, I'd settle for a vernacular translation of the Tridentine, which was the intent of Vatican II, but alas it hasn't happened.

I have a book that has the Latin and English side by side so that you can follow it.
