Any of you God's judgment types care to speculate as to what the residents of Matagorda and the Texas gulf coast have done to deserve hurricane Rita?

I doubt there will be any responses. I am curious to as to why god is punishing Texas now?

I have some seedy relatives that live on and around the coast -- heck, I grew up in Galveston -- but I don't know that any of them deserve a Cat. 5 hurricane.

Especially from a forgiving God.

Scripture says, "it rains on the just and the unjust," and quite literally in this instance.

We'll see if it destroys entire cities, for months on end. For sure, it is ravaging the refineries Katrina missed. Look for Big Bucks gasoline for all Americans, not just Texas and Louisiana.

America can't keep on with abortion, homosexuality, and now embryonic stem cell research and not expect something big to happen. Otherwise, God owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology...Just my personal opinion...

How come people like TLS keep posting that exact scripture over and over on threads like this, but some Christians continue to ignore it?

Because they want to spin natural occurences to fit their religious agenda.

Due to the hurricane and preparation for it, I have not had a chance to answer. I never said Katrina was a judgment on New Orleans, I just merely asked if anyone thought it was a judgment. Personally, I think these hurricanes are a judgment on the entire United States, not just a particular city. The US has become such an immoral nation that God is now letting things happen to remind us that he is in control and no matter what we do, we don't have the control.

As opposed to Sweden? That country just seems immune to natural disasters so I conclude they are the chosen ones. What about Luxembourg? Also seems like there is a cosmic soft spot for that country. Does anything bad weatherwise happen to Mongolia?

I guess the US with hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, drought, volcanoes erupting, etc. should wake up and act a little more Swedish. Heck, Denmark has a lot of coast and when was the last time that country was pummeled by deadly weather? Something is not rotten in Denmark, indeed.

Why would the US be singled out and over such a long period? Why is this wrath not perceived to be directed at particular locations as opposed to having Florida, Louisiana, and Texas serve as a proxy for Vermont, Oregon, and South Dakota? Unless the punishment is directed at the powers that be in Washington and has been in the hands of Republicans for quite a few years now. Hmmm.

If we all just conducted ourselves like Scandinavians (Norway skates through pretty easily) we would not be on the receiving end of so much divine punishment. I'm doing my part, are you?

My understanding of the New Covenant is that people will be judged as individuals, not corporate judgment.

Many people on this board interpreted Katrina as God's way of stopping the Southern Decadence celebration that was scheduled in the French Quarter the following Monday. Old people in nursing homes got drowned. Small children in their neighborhoods got drowned. The French Quarter stayed high and dry and the Southern Decadence celebration went on that Monday, although not on as large a scale as planned. If that storm was God's hand, surely he can do better than that.

Maybe the old people went to heaven and are happy now. What's wrong with that? Isn't that the ultimate goal?

If that was the point, them why didnt God just make them die in their sleep? Seems a bit theatric to destory a whole city and make thousands of survivors' lives miserable just to send a few people to heaven.

As do I. As TLS quoted above, the rain is falling on the just and the unjust.

I'm not saying America was a perfect "moral" nation, but in the 50's it was a lot more moral than it is today. Family and God took the number one spaces in our lives as an individual and as a nation.

i am still waiting (from numerous other threads) for someone to explain why America was "more moral" in the '50s when we had segregation and women could not get jobs.

Its because we didnt have gays, sex, or abortions back then.

By golly your right I forgot about the fifties. Man the good ole days when a white man could drink from a water fountain and not get the (you know) NEGROE germs. And such a beautiful period of time when I could under pay my secretary after I felt her up without any worry of legal recourse since their where no laws against this sort of thing. This horrible world of equality that we live in is horrible. I actualy have to be respectfull to N****rs and skirts.
