They were the first two people on earth right? So they get together and have two sons. Then what?

quote:
Genesis 4

16 So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, [f] east of Eden.

17 Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch.

The scripture doesnt say where she came from, only that Cain lay with his wife. The Lord provided her for him.

PhiAggie has it right. The Bible does not say, and we can only guess. The honest answer is that we do not know.

If it were a myth, I think they would have explained it better. They would have put in the missing details.

Cain married either his sister or his niece. That close to creation, there would be no genetic issues marrying a close relative. Also, before the Law of Moses, there was no prohibition against marrying close relatives.

Aggie4Life has it right. Problems with inbreeding did not occur until the State of Kentucky was founded.

Of course the explaination is that he married one of his siblings. On the other hand, incest in condemned in the Bible. Hmmm?

The answer that is given of him marrying his sibling is not as clear cut for me. For me, that's a significant ommission.

Incest is not condemned until the Law of Moses. It was given over 1000 years after Adam & Eve.

Apart from the genetic repercussions, what do you think is the moral problem with incest?

So you are saying that before Moses it was okay?

You know, in the context of the Adam & Eve story, I don't have a problem with incest as their only means of populating the earth. What I do have a problem with is those that cavalierly state that obviously he procreated with a sibling. Well, that's not obvious and I find that particular part of the Bible a startling omission.
