Father Chad Ripperger Cancelled?

I do not really follow Catholic teachings but this man is highly respected and controversial. He apparently is not a modernist and is a practicing exorcist and his bishop is apparently the sitting bishop for Colorado Springs.
What is interesting to me is that Father Ripperger has been told by his bishop to cancel all engagements for one year. That sounds more discipinary in nature to me, but I am lost at sea on Catholic clerical process and canon law.
The speaker on this video seems to take issue with the current Pope's decisions, perhaps implying that he is a modernist and Father Ripperger is a victim of modernists within the church. Here is the video:

The speaker in the video has gone a little crazy as of late. Fr Ripperger is a great servant of Christ, but a year away from social media will do him good. We do not need anyone turning into another Fr Corapi.

I had never heard of Fr Corapi until now. What a wild story

I'd also never heard of a priest named "Chad"

And another channel with the story. I don't know the Catholic legitimacy or bona fides of these folks, but it is odd that a practicing, experienced exorcist is under this restriction.

As I have said I really like Fr Rip but I have been increasingly uncomfortable with how much he has embraced the limelight as of recent.

Exorcists are constantly under attack from the demonic, and I would think it would behoove them to keep an extremely low profile, and it seems he has become a bit of a celebrity.

Fr Mike Schmitz is a counter to this, as he is all over social media, but his charism is much different. Fr Rip gets into the really dark corners of church stuff that takes a ton of learning and nuance to understand correctly that soundbites don't really do justice.

He was kind of a cult of personality. I saw him speak at the fullness of truth conference about 20 years ago. Tim Staples actually had to keep pulling him back on topic as he'd speak wistfully about snorting cocaine with Tina Turner, and driving his Ferrari full of prostitutes. I remember my parents taking my 15 year old sister out of the room at one point.

I'm giving this story some time to simmer. I know the bishop in question has sent faithful priests to some sort of psychiatric hospital/ward/therapy similar to the infamous St. Luke's. I also believe that Fr. Ripperger, as well as the faithful who hang on his every word, could use a cool down period. This could be exactly what is being said on its face... or it could be something different. Waiting to see.

The thing to understand is that a Catholic priest can not just "hang a shingle" and run their own thing. They have to be given their mission to the local bishop who gets his direction from the Bishop of Rome (Pope). Doing so maintains apostolic authority. As such, Fr Ripperger ministry as an exorcist is an extension of the Bishop's authority. Without it, he is powerless. While the act of humility and sacrificial service is foreign to the secular world, it is a cornerstone of Christian life.

Fr Ripperger ministry also includes, as directed by the bishop, a holy society. It seems like the bishop has asked that he spends more time nurturing that part of his ministry and he has readily agreed.

I can't speak for others but I now the most spiritual rewarding experiences I have had are when I can go on retreat and unplug for a while. I suspect Fr Ripperger will come back stronger and rejuvenated and we are going to need priests like him for the battles to come

Very well said, that's what I was trying to say in so many words. The fact that he's going along with it reaffirms my extremely high opinion of the good Father.

He's known for his opinion on obedience, and it includes not being a fan of the SSPX July 1 thing. So, yes, I am not surprised in the least he is accepting this. May God bless him in this "fast".

Will they have a stand-in exorcist to perform his duties?
IIRC, Exorcism ministry requires a high degree of education, discernment and training in Catholicism.

It depends. I'm not sure what his duties WRT the diocese and exorcisms. Nor do I know about other exorcists (aside from the bishop himself) active in the diocese. We can presume that exorcism cases would be part of his duties with the diocese, but perhaps not. Basically, this direction from the bishop is to cease speaking tours and podcasts and likely also books.

Father Ripperger in a Shawn Ryan clip describing why he could be a target for silencing. He gives some historical background but is still very loyal to the Catholic Church in his remarks:

This may be the best thing for him. Vanity is a helluva drug.

ETA: Went to a Marian conference years ago and Fr. Corapi spoke. He had incredible command of audience and was a wonderful speaker. I pray for him. I do remember he talked about a Harley he owned or used to own and I thought that was odd.

This was excellent for those interested in this topic in general and as it relates to Fr Ripperger. I'll try to come back later and edit to add some cliff notes

I've enjoyed his talks. I do like him having a social media presence as a beacon of, 'Look guys demons are real'. Anything that gets people responding to the left hand of God and taking their own faith more seriously I'm a fan of.

But that being said, the most salacious and juicy clips are of him going, 'Demons lie constantly and we are not to interrogate demons. Now here is a list of things I've learned about the angelic realm from interrogating demons.' So it draws people in for the wrong reasons - desiring secret knowledge and the thrill of interacting with spirits. Its ironically all very Talmudic.

I think a year off will do him good. There's plenty of his material online to convince you demons are real and to get your butt back into church. He doesn't need to be constantly interviewing.

From an orthodox perspective, I don't think there is some equivalent of a specialist of a demon expert like you see here. Your priest does an exorcism, and if that doesn't work, then you go to visit a monastery to be exorcised by monks and priests there who have spent more time in prayer and fasting (like how Jesus said to get rid of the stubborn ones).

IIRC, wasn't Padre Pio restricted in some of his ministerial activities in the 1920s and 30s?
I don't think archbishop is necessarily disciplining him, (Ripperger) but his own order may need some attention and greater oversight as well from the archbishop's perspective.
