As vile as it is, I think we should not give it any oxygen. People that do stuff like this will have to answer for it. There's nothing we can do that will "argue" them away from thinking what they think. Pray for them and turn them over to God. Jesus will ask them to account for how they dealt with his mother.
Sorry, but these statues have nothing to do with Mary. The real Mary that's in heaven. This is just a piece of pottery.
I get it. But even as a person that isn't that religious, thinks most of stuff religion does it hokey worthy of ridicule….this makes my face crinkle up. Deep down I know it's not cool and if I think it's not cool that really speaks volumes to a religious figure condoning it.
This is a very good post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I wonder if those who are indifferent to the desecration of statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary would be equally sanguine about desecration of the book we call the Bible?
The physical books are just tangible vessels of what really matters, which is the message and teachings contained in those books that make up the "Bible." Seems one could make a case that veneration of the physical book containing the inspired "Word" is a form of bibliodolitry.
I can't really disagree with this. I do think it's a little different but I always say it's just paper and ink. It's the words that are sacred. That's why I'm a huge fan of note taking in and marking up my Bible. I've seen people act in a way with the Bible where I've thought "Don't idolize the paper and ink".
