Apparently they're being sued by a regional church conference for trying to self govern.

When I lived in Dallas I knew a lot of people who went here, they were very wealthy.

Why don't they join the Global Methodist Church?

I dunno. Maybe because by doing so they could lose irreplaceable property worth a few tens of millions of bucks?

I haven't looked too much into it but would they not if they left the UMC?

Yes that's the concern. Leaving the UMC for the GMC might result in the property going to the Texas conference of the UMC

This is mostly about money and real estate. they want autonomy, so why give it to another conference?

Yeah, this is where the courts come in...ha

I don't know much about all the various protestant denominations.

Don't these people have a bishop? Does he have any kind of authority? And aren't the ministers appointed by the - bishop, maybe? Or does each church just hire whoever they want?

I looked at their website and there's like a dozen people with Reverand in front fo their name.
