This is all what pop culture baloney. What it is is faith in Jesus to save us, love of God and neighbor, humility, forgiveness of wrongs, purity of soul and body, etc....

This is all what pop culture baloney. What it is is faith in Jesus to save us, love of God and neighbor, humility, forgiveness of wrongs, purity of soul and body, etc....
Those people obviously skipped over the part of Jesus overturning tables, amongst many others. They follow a watered down version of Christianity, I fear those are the type of people whom Jesus will respond to as "I never knew you…"
I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately and to many it's going to seem like a contradiction.
I hate religion deeply....
.... and love God for who He is and what He's done. The more I read the scriptures the more I see them as God speaking to humanity, this is who I am and you can know me. You can also relate to me, will you come to me and trust Me because I want to be your reward, your defender, your anchor in a storm, your hope in death and your solution to the curse of sin in the future.
Think about how relational each "religious" practice is...
Prayer - us talking to God.
Reading the Bible - God disclosing Himself to us.
Communion - an invitation to remember what God has done on our behalf that allows us to relate to Him (relational)
25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
Baptism - like a marriage should be - Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all,
It's a public opportunity to show to the world you are not ashamed of this new relationship. It's like a wedding ring. It doesn't make your married but lets the world know you are spoken for.
Love others: Because they are images bearers of the Almighty.
"Religion is man's attempt to reach God or earn His favor....Jesus is God attempt to reach man because His favor cannot be earned."
From Isaiah 1
"What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?"
Says the Lord.
"I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fed cattle;
And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs or goats.
12 "When you come to appear before Me,
Who requires of you this trampling of My courts?
13 "Bring your worthless offerings no longer,
Incense is an abomination to Me.
New moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies
I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
14 "I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15 "So when you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you multiply prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are covered with blood.
16 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
Cease to do evil,
17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.

Jesus speaking below... "Woe" prophetic announcement of impending judgment or a lament of deep grief
Sometimes the most unkind, not nice, thing to do is to speak the truth. That unkind, not nice, thing may also be the most loving thing a person can do. We see Jesus not being "nice" but speaking the truth with the purpose of love (at the end). If only they would have listened to Him...
13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 14 [Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive greater condemnation.]

I would like to point out that Jesus was only once ever wrathful and violence. It happened when rich money changers were ripping off faithful people in a place of worship. I've seen a lot of churches rip off a lot of faithful people in places of worship, and I have never seen any Christians get moved to acts of violence on their behalf. So I can't really think of anyone following Christ's example
