Now look up the rhetoric around Irish and German Catholics arriving in the United States in the 1840s and 50s.

kurt vonnegut - Unfortunately that description is relatively accurate. I wish it wasn't. We have a recent example in this country (Somalians). Which state that has taken in a significant number of them has truly been made better by that migration? Now compare that to Asians as a whole.

No hate. Just an honest assessment based on historical common knowledge. How we treat individuals in our daily interactions and how we assess/judge whole cultures are two very different things.

Okay, and how have you chosen to treat those individuals? From this conversation, it seems you think of them as a plague of insects.

Guys, sapper is accusing you of a phobia!!! Oooooo ahhhhhh!!!
Phobia means a strong aversion towards, not merely a fear. And yes, there's a lot of xenophobia and transphobia on this board and forum 16.

As someone with an actual phobia, I've not seen phobia on this board. Just because Christians feel homosexuality is a sin (for example) doesn't mean they are phobic of homosexuals. Those "phobias" are flippantly tossed around like the term OCD.
Again, phobia does not only mean fear. It can also refer to an intense hatred or aversion towards. And yeah, there's plenty of homophobia on this board.
Also, I do love how the immediate conversation shifts as soon as the basic fact that the vast majority of immigrants in Ireland are from the UK followed closely by Europeans from the EU is established.
Yes, I know that, and any true Christian would not feel hatred toward the homosexual person. Nor should they try to avoid them. Instead they should hate their sin and try to engage and point them toward Christ. It's the sin we hate and avoid, not the person.
To be honest, I skimmed this post and comments, not really interested in engaging in the original subject matter, but couldn't help myself in commenting about phobias. Probably wasn't appropriate upon further review.
I'm sure there are people out there who actually hate the person; but they aren't a true member of God's family in that case.
Sorry to derail the convo.

I think you've got it the wrong way around. We love homosexuals. We want them to be saved. Just like any other unsaved individual. Several homosexuals I've dealt with in business over the years, and we would have conversations about their lifestyle, abortion, and other political things, would turn hostile. I am always courteous to people with differing views. But they usually wind up cursing me up one side and down the other, simply for bringing up the name of Jesus. The hatred was merely one-sided.

I've seen enough of these conversations to know you're almost certainly projecting far more hatred than you think you are.
