Fr. Jairo Sandoval, pastor at San Jose Catholic Church in Austin, was having dinner at a downtown restaurant with a couple

On his way out, he was suddenly stabbed in the back and neck by a parishioner who recognized him from church

The motive? Perp held a grudge because the priest allegedly mocked/snickered during confession

Fr Sandoval was seriously injured, but survived only because he received timely medical care

Prayers for Father Sandoval

I wasn't making fun. I believe it to be "founded".

Since you asked….

No, I'm not but I think you misunderstood. I'm not just saying that it's "lame".

I'm saying that my prediction is that he is gay and this was a crime deep feelings and passion. Very unmanly traits…

He seems mentally unstable
(a factor, not necessarily shared with all gay people)

He's Catholic but probably not attending in a a while.
(a factor, not necessarily shared with all gay people)

He's got a beef with a Catholic priest that he obviously hasn't seen in awhile. Otherwise his reaction would not have been so strong and reactive.

He is obviously ashamed enough of his behavior that he feels the priest was snickering at him. People tend to get the most uncomfortable and irrational based around sexual in proclivities.

He's single
(Most likely as people who have people spouses and children that depend on them commit almost zero crimes statistically)

He's 52

He's male

(Read this part with a lisp)
Then there's the whole way I pictured in my head where he just becomes exasperated and grabs a knife off of the table and just goes and tries to stab him and his stupid little neck. Doesn't do a very good job and then scurries off to the back crying telling the police "I just wanted to kill him for laughing at me."

Sounds lame and very gay…

Thoughts and prayers for the priest and the parishioner here.

Some inside baseball here, that priest has got to be going, 'Oh man I was this close to being a martyr. Would've put me in a whole different ball park if I had died! Modern medicine gonna keep me vying for righteous dead now instead being in the pole position of being a martyr.

Yes, but now he ironically holds both the official position of being a "Confessor for Christ", a title given to those who were injured or persecuted but not killed, while potentially being a bad confessor.

A Confessor for being a bad confessor.

For me, this just wins the Internet today

(As a good Orthodox lad I also want to state the obvious that I'm very glad that our Catholic brother in Christ it's OK. Prayers for a speedy recovery.)

This hits close to home. We attended San Jose (South Austin) from 1991-1997ish. A wonderful parish and very active community. Interestingly, this last Sunday a group of us were having dinner with the new Pastor, a Holy Cross priest, Fr. Phillipe. Holy Cross is taking control of San Jose, San Juan Diego HS (where my son attends). They staff St. Ignatius nearby and St. Edward's university. Mothership is at Norte Dame (South Bend, IN).

Hope all is well.
