Well no, this has nothing to do with July 4th. Even the posted article is at least aware enough to note that this is tied to a specific Islamic holy day which is frequently celebrated with processions. As far as I can see, they're not marking it any differently than they would if they had been living in any other country. References to oppression and resistance are targeted towards the Sunni/Shia split.

So what exactly do you want here? Are only Christians allowed to publicly celebrate holidays in this country? Maybe you'd like congress to pass a law respecting the establishment of religion, or maybe some prohibition of the free exercise thereof?

That website is very informative about Islam and its aims. And, oh my bad, I was mistaken about the parade being only about the scuffle between Sunni & Shia Islam. Perhaps some of those holding signs about "freeing Palestine", and "we shall not be silenced" should be notified that they were also misled.

No one said it was only about sectarian issues, but considering Shia's use the event to remember a religious figure being murdered for refusing to bow down to an opposing leader viewed as immoral you can see how that theme might be applied to modern conflicts.

Twenty five plus years of Republicans screaming about Muslims wanting Sharia law and the only ones I see using the power of government to enforce their religion in this country is those same Republicans.
