Not sure if this type of post is normal or if discussion about specific verses is done here. But this morning reading the reference verses in the title I had a paradigm shift in seeing this section.

Quote:

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
I've always viewed this section as Jesus as the drover. Leading the yoked oxen from that perspective. But in actuality it is talking about being yoked together with Jesus and you learning how to work with Him as part of the team of oxen (or draft animals). It completely changes the notion of working alone and being driven by God; to working with and learning from Him in a relationship and cooperation arrangement. He is the lead animal in the team but He is there working alongside of us (or we alongside of Him as it were). Others probably had this understanding from the start in this but it hit me this morning differently and I'm still processing it.
You do not have a soul. You are a soul that has a body.

Agree with your new interpretation. I think the point here is that we are bound together, or "yoked" with Christ.

Much like the verses about the grafting in of the vines into Christ. And nothing can separate that yoking or grafting.

Very reassuring.

Absolutely! It opens up a ton of other relational aspects as well...my mind has been racing on this all morning.

Yes!! Thinking also of the marriage imagery and the teaching on not being unequally yoked with your earthly spouse...but it also speaks deeper to this as well I believe.

The Church is the bride of Christ. Never to be divorced.

And I believe that is why divorce is so frowned upon in Scripture.

Marriage should reflect the relationship we have with Christ. Unbreakable.

Yes. Absolutely correct. In the same way as the bride of Christ we are to be submissive to His leadership. Working and striving for the Kingdom and at the same time we are with Him in that undertaking. Not out in front receiving orders (military thought of general >>>>>>grunt). We are Yoked together, grafted into, adopted and co-heirs. Like I said it is a paradigm shift for me. I've always "known" these things but having a this understanding is something different.
