The statue of liberty was built by a French Freemason, conceived by a French communist sympathizer, modeled on an egyptian muslim woman, and the poem mentioned was written by a Jewish socialist trying to leverage us to let more jewish refugees in.

There is very little 'American' about the development or the designs behind the gift to us, but I do cherish it as a symbol of our country.

Reading more of the history, it really is a representation of America than just an ideal.
