Man, those 19th century Czech and German farmers really knew how to create an atmosphere for true worship of Jesus Christ. We only visited 4 of them yesterday in the middle of farm country around Schulenburg. I highly recommend this great tour! More pics later today...

That's awesome. I've been wanting to do that for some time now.
It is difficult to write as if I was in your presence. However, it is a necessary skill. Communication should be full of smiles, respect, and a desire to relate. If you cannot relate to me, and I to you, there is little chance of us positively influencing each other.

My German farmer ancestors did a lot to build up the kingdom by building these churches themselves, and spending a lot of their hard earned money (of which there was little) to import these beautiful statues and hand painting the canvas walls themselves...I think I need to do more after seeing all of this Texas heritage...

At Dubina, there is also a cemetery next to the church. I can't remember exactly what the tour guide said, but there is a sign there that said something like - "We are those who have gone before. Thanks for visiting. Now, either pray for us or go away."

HAH!

I just proposed at St Mary's in Praha in December! My Fiance and I love the painted churches and the country out there. Such a beautiful sign of the faith of those who settled there. The boys of Praha is one of the most powerful stories of sacrifice I've heard.

Both my kids were baptized at Queen of Peace in Sweet Home. Beautiful altar.

Never cared for the more Renaissance statue style myself.

Those churches are beautiful but can't hold a candle to old world Byzantine mosaics.

These are Istanbul and Mount Athos.

Have you ever been to St Matthew the Apostle in DC?

In similar tone, the new "basilica on the Brazos" , St Mary's here in College Station, is beautiful.

A late Beaumont Aggie buddy of mine, Joey Tortorici,, gave a lot for the renovation. He was one of the co founders of Jason's Deli and a Distinguished Alumni recipient.

Wow. How awesome!
He gave me a Jason's sweater vest at an Aggie baseball game and said "take this, I do not need it anymore". And he was dying from cancer.

Thanks for sharing. I'll make that trip some day. Would have loved to be part of that group with Fr Eric leading the trip.

Praha is worth the trip in and of itself.

It is interesting how they painted "groin vaults" onto the wood and painted "marble" onto the wood posts and capitals. The painting is what is really incredible! Like a "faux-gothic" revival.

My wife and I were married in High Hill 30 years ago this summer. My daughters grew up going to Christmas Eve Mass in High Hill. It is very beautiful with all of the candles lit. Just a few short years ago my middle daughter was also married there.

While not technically one of the painted churches, St. Peter's in Lindsay (Cooke County, Diocese of FW) is another gem.
