God also allows his laws of nature and man's ability to reason to discern things. Certainly its possible he used this event, but then we'd also look at the date of every natural weather phenomenon and try to assign some relevance to Gods judgement or message to it.

We should always look for God in unexpected places, but we should use the intellect God gave us as well.

Yes, one has to be careful in this area. Take the fate of Balthasar, for example. He died right before Pope Saint John Paul II elevated him to Cardinal. Some speculated that it was so he would not spread certain theologies about hopeful universalism (to bring a few other threads into this context) . That's generally dismissed however, given the kinship Balthasar had with Pope St John Paul II.
