I really enjoyed this read. This is good history.

The article is too long for me to summarize. But…church history is something absent and lacking in our higher institutions. It's another piece to the puzzle when learning history.

This link from 2005 is very good for us to consider when thinking and praying about our dilemma with Islam.

Good article, but I wouldn't call that article discussing the 'influence' of islam as much as 'islam's attack of'. The Metropolitan is being kind with words here. What that article walks through is slaughter and subjugation and its lasting effects.

In my mind, influence seems more 'minor' than death or enslavement and would be more about the rise of iconoclasts and the struggle of the early church fighting off that heresy. Also priests wearing a black hat at various times during the liturgy as it harkens back to the Turks requiring the priests identify themselves with a black hat while in public.

I thought that as well about the title of the article after reading it.

Islamic rulers have seldom proved tolerant of Christianity, often saddling them and Jews with jizya, a rather significant extra tax.
And that is when things were at their peaceful best.

Interesting article. Thank you for sharing.

You might really enjoy "Sea of Faith", Stephen O'Shea. It does a meticulous job of discussing the intersection of faith, sans theology, through ten distinct events ranging from about 1000 AD - 1500AD.

You betcha. For the record, I'm not a reverend, though I am a formally trained chaplain. I appreciate the job promotion though! hahaha

When you retire, you likely will be.
Mark Spence was a former pastor of mine. He was a retired chaplain. Prayers for your ministry in boldness to our troops.

Use a high powered leaf blower of the Holy Spirit to remove the dead leaves of secularism's winter from the porches of the barracks. I pray. Well there probably aren't a lot of trees on base. But I was just blowing off leaves with the blower and thought about your mission.

Thanks for that. It means a lot. I'm a hospital chaplain...civilian.

Oh…I see. Well…remove the dead leaves of nihilism from their hearts that affects us as well. Thank you for your ministry. Honored to have you around.
