One of my coworkers wife is pregnant, but the child has sadly developed such severe deformities it is not expected to survive much longer.

They are very devout catholic( roman), and several of us would like to do something for him( we have aomething for her already). I understand St Nicholas is considered the patron of children, we had considered trying to find a medal for the coworker, and possibly asking the local priest for a blessing? My knowledge of day to day catholic tradition is not what it should be, would this be an appropriate gift? Is there something we could get for him that might be more meaningful or significant?

I do not have the words for how sorry I feel for them. They are wonderful parents to the little girl they have, and would like to have many more.

I know there are many catholics of various types on this board, I'm hoping yall would be willing to offer us some advice.

I think that is a very nice gift, and yes Priests are asked to bless medals, crucifixes, rosaries often so I am sure the local Priest has a blessing he uses and would be happy to do so, it does not take very long.

I will pray for your friend and his family.

Thank yall for the feedback. We ordered the medal, and a couple of us will speak to the priest at the local church after it comes in. I was reasonably sure we had the right idea, but did not want to insult or hurt him.

It is really a sad situation, because it is now just a matter of waiting and knowing the outcome.
