Last week Barrons reported twenty somethings being a largely unhappy generation, and the issue is so big it's impacting investments. It is the least churched generation in America.

I am curious did Church education help people?

Can you be more specific? Do you mean actually going through an education process about the history of a particular church and being taught scripture as both an historic and spiritual guide for the church? Or are you just speaking about the Catholic Church.
Personally, if you join any church and don't understand its history or why scriptures are interpreted a certain way, you are just relying on someone telling you...'because that's what we believe it says'.

My Sunday school teacher had an ineffective flannel board but I used my vivid imagination about the Egyptian army drowning in the Red Sea. Best was the comic strip series about missionary to China Gladys Aylward avoiding the Japanese persecution of Christians.

Don't find it surprising they are unhappy. Have seen several articles recently that talk about the "none" group leaving the church, but still seeking what the church provides. Namely community, purpose, and spiritual guidance. I think it has probably led in large part to our current divide.

yes, I was catechized and would probably not be Christian if I had not been. Catechesis helped uncover some things that I was really struggling with in my relationship with God and cut them off before they became cancerous to my faith.

I went through it before joining the Holy Roman Catholic Church. I was raised a Southern Baptist, and it dispelled many myths. Funny, when I joined the KCs, it was pointed out that the converts in the room generally end up making better Catholics than those in the church their whole lives.

Non-catholic perspective. Assumption: "I am curious did Church education help people (find happiness)?

  • A biblical education did not help me find happiness. Happiness is related to circumstances.
  • A biblical education identified my sin and exposed my personal sin.
  • It developed my personal need for forgiveness.
  • It pointed me to the truth about the reality of God's existence, His interaction in human history, and where I fit in which produces joy.
  • There is great joy in fellowshipping with fellow believers and hearing their redemption stories and aligning with them in worship and for a common purposes

Happiness can be found in trying to live life independently from God and in sin, but sin will ultimately pay off in death and broken relationships.

A lot of Cumbaya in my early years, but then in my twenties, I was blessed with Mother Angelica and EWTN. The rest is history.
