What's that go to do with the topic? You said your children vs child that doesn't belong to me. That implied to me that some humans are not God's children.
Seems like the same kind of reasoning you went down.

Not really…it's exactly what you said it was.
Ok. Does God have one son or many sons?

I'm not getting drug into your BS. Leave me out of it.
Maybe don't enter the chat then.

Scriptures say we are all His offspring and that He is not far from each one of us.

God is omniscient so He hears all prayers.

Scripture is clear that Jesus is the only way to God.

I have no idea whether He answers prayers from non believers as God can do what He wants.
I guess you also think he didn't start answering prayers until 0AD also huh?

You are accusing Derm of a heresy that I am very certain Derm does not subscribe to.

Thanks. Always consider the source.

Here is short list of some answered prayers:

  • Abraham's prayer for Lot and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:22-23)
  • Hannah's prayer of praise and thanksgiving for her son Samuel (1 Samuel 2:1-10)
  • Moses' prayer of intercession for the Israelites and request for God's presence (Exodus 33:12-23)
  • Hezekiah's prayer of faith and desperation for God's help against the Assyrians (2 Kings 19:14-19)

None of these people knew who Jesus was. Some knew the angel of the Lord. But they did not know Him as Jesus and he did not die to save them. The angel forgave sins.

"To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord."

Can your provide scriptural evidence to support your claim the PRIMARY point of prayer is to grow closer to God?

I see this line of thinking alot lately. Typically prevailing in reformed theology. yet I rarely see it. accompanied with scriptures. I'm not saying you're wrong but I'm curious if you have scriptures to support your belief.

Oh man, judging by your question you're not going to like this answer. I go to an orthodox church and this is out of discussions with the priest. I didn't ask for citations when we discussed this.

I think a bigger question here is, what is the primary point of this life? And the answer is to grow closer to God and work out your salvation. And prayer life is part of that. Its you communicating with God and reverencing God. Is there someone you're close to that you don't talk to? I would say no. So prayer life, along with partaking in anything related to church, is to grow closer to God and work out your salvation.

God knows your deepest desires and needs. God loves you. God is also just. God also has a different relationship with death than we do. Step one of praying good prayers is to spot/stop bad prayers. If the primary role of prayer isn't growing closer to God, what would it be? Its not an IT request line. Its not to 'bring God down' and make Him your servant like prayers to idols are for.

I would rely on scripture vs a man and support your belief with Gods word or change it. You made a bold claim. The Primary purpose of prayer:

Yet no scripture. I'm not saying you are wrong. You may or may not be. But collectively as believers we often lean on men instead of Gods very own words.

In a very protestant manner, let me ask you, what do you think the primary purpose of prayer is? And how did you come to that conclusion?

I haven't fully formed my opinion on what the primary purpose of prayer is. That's a big claim whichever way one falls. However I'm leaning towards the primary function being an effectual participant in bringing about God's will. I believe we are on mission, working and prayer is our tool to complete our work.

Luke 11. The prayer taught by Jesus encompasses physical provisions, reverence to God, repentance, protection and bringing about God's will.

Are our definitions not in agreeance? Are these not the embodiment of growing closer to God?

Quite possibly but also could not be. There's the possibility of a great divergence that could lead to issues.
