This is the same bunch that Madame Blavatsky and her Theosophists pushed, IIRC. Interestingly, this system obsessed rocket pioneer Jack Parsons and his tenant L Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. Interesting that these incredibly smart men were obsessed with sex magick and the occult, rejecting the God of the Bible but embracing ideas of sexual libertinism, contact with higher, nonhuman creatures and forming their own cults. Thread of the Silkworm (Iris Chang) offers a good account of these CalTech affiliated scientists and their activities.
