At least that is what this article claims...apparently in that place men are allowed to yell at women but women cannot legally yell back.
I suspect there is more to this, and hope TexAgs can fill me in.

Allen, whom the Daily Beast refers to as a "trucker-turned-TikTok influencer," has now been detained in the United Arab Emirates for two months, her passport seized, and she's facing prison time.
I'm finding if very difficult to care.

I'm guessing something about her, perhaps appearance/attitude, set off the guy yelling at her,,,which doesn't excuse his aggressiveness but also isn't surpising in that culture.
I find myself wondering why she even went there.
Look for the U.S. to try to work some kind of deal to get her out.

I doubt it was the yelling. It was probably public accusations of wrongdoing (edit: or indecency like swearing). Foreigners need to be careful in places like UAE of engaging in public arguments with locals.

This is looking more like a car rental company scam than an Islamic thing.
"I just had three Americans in the past couple of months who said they were in pretty much the same situation"..."they ended up paying $20,000 that they didn't owe..."said Badha Stirling, a UK based advocate for an organization called "Detained in Dubai".

Lived in Dubai for a few years. Had to have a letter written in Arabic to give my wife permission to drive our (my) car. Women and children are considered property in that country. Most days, it seems very normal and similar to our Western Culture, but just about the time you think everything is very similar, you are reminded that Muslim countries and Sharia law is very different. Have wonderful memories of our time there and our adventures in the UAE, but I was young and naive when I moved there, and knowing what I know now, I would not go back.
